Ten IVF cycles. Recurrent miscarriage. Unexplained infertility. And eventually, two beautiful daughters - and a story Stephanie Boag knew could help someone else. 🍍
In this episode of The Home of Fertility Podcast, I sit down with Melbourne author and fertility advocate Stephanie Boag, creator of the award-winning Sticky Pineapple book series.
Stephanie speaks so openly about the parts of IVF that often happen quietly behind closed doors: the exhaustion, the grief, the endless appointments, the questions without answers, and what it takes to find enough strength to keep moving forward.
We talk about her experience of unexplained infertility, discovering endometriosis later in her journey, miscarriage and delayed trauma, protecting her mental and physical wellbeing, and why having the right people around you can make such a difference.
But what I especially love about Stephanie’s story is what she has created from it.
🍍 Sticky Pineapple and a Powerful Mind: Waiting for a Heartbeat shares her fertility journey for adults navigating IVF and those supporting them.
🍍 Sticky Pineapple and the Little Precious Gems: How I Came Into This World helps parents explain IVF and assisted conception to children in a warm, gentle and age-appropriate way.
Stephanie wrote the children’s book after her daughter simply asked her at bedtime:
“Mummy, how was I born?”
And that conversation became something much bigger, a way to help families talk openly about IVF, normalise the many different ways children come into the world, and help reduce the stigma that can still surround infertility.
As Stephanie says, it doesn’t matter how you came into this world. Being here is still something beautiful and incredible.
This is such an important conversation for anyone navigating fertility treatment, but also for partners, parents, friends and colleagues wondering how they can better support someone they love.
