We do this by informing and supporting a culturally safe health care system. AIDA’s work provides the government and other national bodies with key outcomes and deliverables correlating with high level public policy including Close the Gap campaign and the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan.

Tonight, AIDA welcomed new board members during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Boorloo (Perth).

We’re pleased to welcome some new and familiar faces to a strong group of leaders who will guide AIDA through its next phase. 🤝🏾 We look forward to the leadership, experience and perspectives they will bring as AIDA continues working towards our strategic goals. The AIDA 2026 Conference has officially started in Boorloo (Perth) with a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country by Nick Abraham from Warrang-Bridil, setting the tone for three days grounded in: Our Cultures. Our Peoples. Our Doctors. 🌿

Each conference day is themed to guide our conversations, learnings and connections throughout the gathering.

AIDA Student members, your voice can help shape a stronger future for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students.

As an AIDA Regional Lead, you will:
✅ represent the voices and experiences of medical students in your region
✅ help guide AIDA's student initiatives and priorities
✅ contribute to Student Representative Committee discussions
✅ help inform AIDA's work to support student success and wellbeing
✅ receive remuneration for your time ($4,000 per full year)

Meet Associate Professor Glenn Pearson, presenter at . 👋🏾

A Nyoongar researcher, educator and Aboriginal health leader, Glenn is the Director of First Nations Strategy and Leadership at The Kids Research Institute Australia and Head of its First Nations Health and Equity Theme. His work is grounded in Aboriginal cultural authority and community partnership, with a focus on strengthening evidence, amplifying Aboriginal voices and improving health outcomes for Aboriginal children, families and communities. 🌿

🫀 Glenn’s research focuses on Strep A and rheumatic heart disease, including major initiatives working towards ending RHD in Western Australia.

The Gala Dinner is an evening where our community comes together to share stories, reconnect with old friends, welcome new faces and celebrate the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander doctors and medical students.

The evening also features the AIDA Awards, celebrating the outstanding contributions of our members, alongside one of AIDA's most meaningful traditions: the Stethoscope Presentation. Graduating medical students and new Fellows are gifted a hand-painted AIDA stethoscope to recognise their journey and welcome them into the next chapter of their career.
