IAHA are proud to be a Partner of the 2026 Deadly Cup Carnival

The Deadly Cup is one of the largest NAIDOC week events in the NT and provides an opportunity to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culture and connection through sport. This year, IAHA are sponsoring the cultural activities and will be running a number of activities for young mob – including face painting and Indigenous games!

Congratulations to IAHA Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, Dr Mick Adams, for being appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his significant service to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and education.

Dr Mick Adams AM is a Yadhiagana and Wuthuti man and has dedicated his life to improving the wellbeing of mob and has been strong advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men’s health. Dr Mick Adams AM has been a long-term member and supporter of IAHA, including as a mentor to many of our members who have studied social work. He continues to inspire the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health leaders and is pictured here with Chairperson Nicole Turner, Deputy CEO Kylie Stothers, and trainees from our National Academy Program at the NAATSIHWP Professional Development Symposium in Darwin last year.

The Order of Australia recognises Australians who have demonstrated outstanding service or exceptional achievement, and Uncle Mick typifies this. In receiving this honour his hope is to enable him to continue to impact nationally, showing the depth of his commitment to our people.

Congratulations again to Dr Mick Adams AM!

On National Sorry Day, and every day, Indigenous Allied Health Australia (IAHA) stands with Stolen Generations survivors, their families, and communities.

The 29th anniversary of the tabling of the landmark Bringing Them Home report is a day of reflection, on the strengths of survivors, and the impact that their voices, stories and truth telling have on how we understand our shared history. Sadly, it also reminds us of the lack of progress made in honouring their experiences and redressing the ongoing impacts on their lives, and the lives of our families and communities, by supporting collective healing.

On this important day, IAHA calls on governments to move beyond words and recognition, and to invest in the people, services, and systems needed to support survivors and descendants — now, not later.
