Bird watchers, be aware of bird flu.

H5 bird flu is a serious, highly contagious strain of bird flu that has been circulating globally. There have been no detections in poultry or the wider agriculture industry. The risk to human health remains low.

If you notice sick or dead birds or other animals showing signs of bird flu, you should not touch them or get too close.

Record your location and report multiple sick or dead birds or other animals to the 24-hour Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

Help strengthen Australia’s emergency animal disease preparedness

Animal Health Australia, NSW DPIRD, and national Peak Industry Bodies invite livestock industry professionals to take part in the Liaison – Livestock Industry (LLI) workshop in Wollongbar on 28 October 2026.

This workshop is designed for those who may represent their industry during an Emergency Animal Disease (EAD) outbreak. It’s not general training—it’s targeted, practical, and essential.

✅ Get across the national EAD response arrangements
✅ Understand the LLI role and how it connects industry and government
✅ Build confidence in crisis communication and coordination
✅ Take part in scenario-based exercises that prepare you for the real thing

Nominations are open through your Peak Industry Body (PIB) as one of Animal Health Australia’s livestock industry members. Workshop is free to attend with endorsement by your peak body.
