Playdough and shaving cream cupcakes 🧁

Working on so many skills at the same time - tactile exposure, using two hands together (bilateral coordination), using utensils and tools (fine motor skills), planning and organizing multiple steps in a task (executive functioning), following a plan and while doing something fun and creative. Usually there’s a taste of the sprinkles at the end too 😋

Collaboration looks like this… 💬📚🍎

How do you know your child attends an MD clinic that truly believes in collaboration?

Maybe it’s when your feeding therapists are modelling Key Word Sign while supporting positive food exposures and sensory exploration… and they’ve matched their Book Week costumes to the theme of the session! 👀😂

Books are one of those wonderful resources that truly span disciplines:
📚 For our speech pathologists, they support early literacy, language and communication.
🍓 For our dietitians, they provide opportunities for positive food exposure and building familiarity with foods in a fun, low-pressure way.
✋ For our occupational therapists, they can be a great way to practise fine motor skills, attention, participation and sensory exploration.
And when we bring all of these approaches together, we can support the whole child, rather than working in isolation.

So here's to books, collaboration, slightly questionable costume-crafting skills, and a team that loves celebrating each other's professions! 💛

Communication is more than speaking!

It can look like signs, gestures, using visuals or pictures, communication devices and usually a combination of these.

Having different ways to communicate gives a person the power the make choices, share ideas, express how they feel, connect with others and show the world who they are. It supports independence, participation and belonging.

Key Word Sign is one of the many ways we can help make communication more accessible. We asked our team to share their favourite key word sign. Some of us even learnt new ones ourselves.
