What a morning! 488 people joined us beside Yarralumla Creek to celebrate Woden Town parkrun’s first birthday, with a wonderful sea of red in front of the Callam Offices! ❤️
It’s amazing to think how far we’ve come in just 12 months. We started with 102 participants on 18 October 2025, followed up with 731 a week later, and have since welcomed thousands of people to walk, jog, run and volunteer with us.
But the thing we’re proudest of isn’t the numbers – it’s the community we’ve built. Every week, people put their hands up to fill the essential volunteer roles that make parkrun possible. And we’re fortunate to have so many who volunteer for the extra roles too, the ones that make Saturday mornings that little bit better for everyone. That generosity has been one of the great joys of our first year.
And what a way to celebrate, just two days after winning an ACT Heritage Award for bringing the iconic Callam Offices to a new community! 🏆
Now to the birthday results! 🎂
We welcomed 488 finishers, including 74 first timers to Woden Town, of whom 8 were doing their very first parkrun. An impressive 83 people recorded personal bests! 👏
We also celebrated some wonderful milestones:
💜 25 parkruns: Brett Ward, Jenny Palmer, Jo Andrighetto, Ngawang Yangchen Lama and Sarah Peden.
❤️ 50 parkruns: Tobias Snoad, Danny Poole and Alexander Le Cornu.
🖤 100 parkruns: Bei Hu and Leanne Brown.
The event was made possible by 26 volunteers:
Andrew DEMPSTER, Lili MOONEY, Michael DALY, Jane GILLIS, Lee STEEL, Richard GAO, Sarah HAYNE, Joseph TONEL, Michael ALLAN, Michael ANDERSON, Paul MA, Drew BAKER, Shane MARTIN, Dan WEBB, Stacey KING, Jillian MITCHELL, Emma ANDERSON, Tommy ANDERSON, Gordon CAREY, Louie GREGSON, Sarah TORRINGTON, Toby BELLWOOD, Yogesh GURUNG, Vizma MORGAN, Atif RIAZ and William KEARNS.
A huge thank you to our wonderful hi-vis crew, and to everyone who helped make our first birthday such a special occasion.
One year down, and what a year it’s been! Thank you for being part of it. Here’s to many more Saturday mornings together. See you next week! ❤️
P.S. if you are still reading we are looking for 3 marshals to complete next week’s roster, including the critical Turnaround Marshal (“seeker of the blue dot”) 🔵🙏
