If you’re wondering about plant combinations and what plant and cool weather in the subtropics, this is a happy combination.
On the trellis sugar snap peas
In front broccoli
Along the border, Nigella also called love in a mist
And because I couldn’t cut it out, there is still a basil tucked in there and the Bees And pollinators are loving it
I find combination planting like this is terrific for keeping plants healthy and happy.
Each of these I have grown from Organic saved seed and look how strong and vibrant they are.

Winter in the subtropics is very productive in our garden. In this small Raised bed, I’m growing a combination of deliciousness. Climbing beans on the trellis with tatsoi on the shady side and on the sunny side, nigella (Love in a mist).
I like to combine flowers , especially edible varieties with my food growing for a number of reasons
1. It looks gorgeous.
2. The pollinators and other insects have an extra reason to visit our veggies
3. A mixed planting will confuse pests resulting in less insect damage to our crops.
4. And I also need as much space as possible for my Edibleflowers as I sell these to Cake Decorators , chefs and delicatessens.

I love flower or vegetable borders in the veggie patch. This one is a row of radishes a row of purple topped turnips behind.
Both of these delicious root crops have edible leaves that we use for stirfry soups and pesto
But it’s the roots of both that I love . Now don’t screw up your nose to turnips. We eat these when they are a bit larger than golf ball size. They are sweet and totally delicious.

One of my upper vegie patch section of mixed flowers and vegie crops went in today.
I planted from seed: Marigolds, Gourmet delight beans, a border of my mixed radish selection , some purple topped turnips. And my seed grown Stocks went out too
The blues and purples are good companions for the brassicas ie cauliflower and cabbage, in that I have much less damage from the white butterfly larvae than if they are just planted by themselves

Elderberry syrup for coughs and viruses is in high demand at the moment. I will have some for you to pick up at the stall tomorrow. it’s an age old remedy that has been tried and tested for hundreds of generations. Sipping that soothing elderberry goodness makes you feel so relieved when you have the horrible symptoms of a virus.
I also have the first of our harvest of ORGANIC ginger as well as a beautiful selection of jams, ginger cordial and fresh relishes and chutney
Tomorrow afternoon Saturday from 2-4, I’d love to see you for the garden gate stall. .

I’ve whipped up 5 new savoury delights for the garden gate stall on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 pm . This little baby is fantasmagorical.
Even though rain we’ll try to spoil our afternoon, spiced Cacao and Turmeric drink on offer plus some delicious taste testers for you.
The first of our organic ginger is also out of the ground and looks wonderful. It’s for sale again too.

Days away with my youngest daughter who gave me this as an early birthday present. It’s been the most wonderful time with her and a chance to take days off from the garden whilst thoroughly enjoying being spoilt.
It’s times like this that are relaxed, that allow me mental and physical space to just doodle away at things that may not be wonderful art but that give me a little creative outlet
