It’s wonderful to see the Poppies flowering already, on 2 September.
However, one thing worries me
Last year as soon as the poppies were out, they were smothered in Bees
This year almost all the beehives have perished in the Redlands due to either wax moth or varroa mite. In April I sowed seed of these Poppies hoping that they would attract as many Bees as possible. Give them a good feed and a good time in our garden.
I hope that I can please some little Bees And pollinators in the next month while they are in flower

A day late but still worth welcoming. What am I doing in our spring garden?
- it’s drying out so watering key areas that don’t get the irrigation system
- regular foliar fertilising of the vegies and flowers with Seachange KFF from Nutritech, alternating with Foliar sprays of Eco AminoGrow
- hand weeding out the bindi from the grass
-sowing seeds of lettuce, snow and snap peas, eggplant, leeks, beans
- refreshing the pheromone baits in the fruit fly traps
- Bagging the green tomatoes with fruit fly prevention bags
-Fertilising the fruit trees with aged chicken manure
-Picking the dandelion flowers cutting off the yellow petals and freezing them. I stockpile them until I have enough to make dandelion jelly.

The BoGI fair is coming up very soon
It is always a wonderful event for anyone interested in food and gardens
I suggest you drop everything else and tootle along this year for the best feel good event that I know.

Time to save the date! BOGI Annual Fair is just around the corner and you don't want to miss this great day out. Somethng for all ages, special activities for the kids, great talks for the gardeners and recyclers or just a great place to come to sit down with a cuppa and delicious sandwich. It’s always a delight and somewhat of a surprise to see the first of things blooming or fruiting in the garden. And this evening my delightful surprise is seeing that wisteria with its first bloom. There’s quite a few more but they won’t be far behind.

Our little sunflower cottage is made from 99% recycled timber and materials and we love it

I have half a car load of herbs and it smells wonderful. Very soon the Library will smell wonderful too as we start the Home herb garden event at Hamilton Library.
They may still have some spaces, so give them a buzz and drop by

Last weekend I spoke to a full room of enthusiastic people at the Coochie Mudlo Island Heritage Society. It was a lovely thing to do for several reasons… the people were lovely; the trip over on the ferry was a delight; and the trip back from island to car was in that golden hour before sunset, and it was beautiful. 🌊💧🐟
I feel so privileged to do what it do and to live where I live.
