Let’s put to rest for good the false assumptions that bottle-feeding is “easier” for preemies than breastfeeding. Acording to this 2026 RCT, at their first feeding by mouth, preemies breastfed had measurably better oxygen levels and heart rates compared with those whose first oral feed was by bottle. The breastfed preemies even took more milk! Please share these findings far and wide! https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41318959/

🚨 INFANT FORMULA RECALL ALERT – PLEASE READ 🚨
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has issued two related infant formula recalls due to a possible contamination with a toxin called cereulide. These are separate recalls of different products, but they are linked to the same safety concern.

🔴 Recall 1: Alula infant formula (sold in supermarkets & pharmacies)
Certain batches of:
* Alula Gold Reflux
* Alula Colic & Constipation
have been recalled because they may contain cereulide, a toxin produced by some bacteria. This toxin can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea and lethargy, particularly concerning for infants.

🔴 Recall 2: Nestlé Alfamino (specialist infant formula)
Earlier this month, Nestlé recalled specific batches of Alfamino, a specialist medical infant formula, for the same toxin concern (cereulide).

❗ Important to know
* These recalls do NOT affect all formula products — only specific batches listed in the FSANZ notices.
* If you have one of the affected products, do not feed it to your baby.
* Products can be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.
* If your baby has consumed the formula and you’re worried or notice symptoms, seek medical advice.

FSANZ has advised that the Alula recall followed the earlier Nestlé recall after the same contamination risk was identified.
Please share this information with anyone who may be using infant formula, and always check batch numbers carefully.

Please join our support arm Nurturing Mothers if you need support weaning off supplements, building your supply or relactation advice.

Great to see the research and supports coming together for dads 💙

"It's quite daunting becoming a dad for the first time...you put yourself last."

Shaun Tonkes has taken part in the Working Out Dads project at Murdoch Children's Research Institute, led by Associate Professor Rebecca Giallo.

Tweddle’s Working Out Dads program, originally developed in 2016, helps to promote men’s health and well-being during early fatherhood and showcases how dads help aid the development of their babies and young children.
