On the road with Amelia! πŸš—πŸ’™

Whether she's heading to a home, school, childcare centre or kindy, Amelia is always on her way to help children move, grow, and reach their goals 🌈

As one of our Paediatric Physiotherapists, Amelia loves supporting children to build confidence, independence, and the physical skills they need to participate in everyday life. Every visit is tailored to the child's unique needs, making therapy fun, engaging, and meaningful πŸ’ͺ🏼✨

"I love being able to make a meaningful difference in a young person's physical development while helping them build confidence and independence."

Our mobile therapy model means children can receive support in familiar environments where they're most comfortable, helping them get the most out of every session 🏑

Thank you, Amelia, for the passion, positivity, and care you bring to every family you support! πŸ’™

Small skills. Big milestones. πŸ‘Ÿβœ¨

Learning to tie shoelaces might seem like a simple everyday task, but for many children it involves a lot of important skills working together.

Occupational Therapy can support children to develop the coordination, hand strength, focus, sequencing and confidence needed to master everyday activities β€” including getting ready independently.

A few tips to help children practise at home:
πŸ‘Ÿ Break the steps down into smaller parts
πŸ‘Ÿ Practise when there is no rush (not when you’re heading out the door!)
πŸ‘Ÿ Use fun activities like threading, building with blocks or craft to strengthen fine motor skills
πŸ‘Ÿ Celebrate progress β€” independence grows one step at a time πŸ’›

Every child learns differently, and our clinicians work with children to build skills in ways that are meaningful and motivating for them.

If your child refuses vegetables, take a deep breath... it's actually very common.

The key is to keep offering them, without pressure.

Rather than forcing, bribing or insisting on "just one bite", try:
πŸ₯¦ Serving vegetables alongside foods your child already enjoys.
πŸ›’ Getting them involved in shopping and choosing vegetables.
πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ Letting them help prepare meals in age-appropriate ways.
😊 Keeping mealtimes positive and low pressure, even if they don't eat the vegetables straight away.

Learning to like new foods takes time. Children often need many opportunities to see, touch, smell and taste a food before they're ready to eat it.

If you're feeling stuck, you're not on your own πŸ’™ Our Paediatric Dietitians can work with you to understand what's behind your child's eating habits and provide practical, evidence-based strategies to help expand the variety of foods they eat.

Storytime with a purpose! πŸ“š

Our school readiness groups aren’t just about reading books, they’re about building important skills for the classroom. Activities like group storytelling help kids develop listening skills, turn-taking, and confidence in contributing their own ideas.

By practicing these skills in a supportive, small-group setting, kids learn how to participate, communicate, and thrive in a school environment.

We are currently taking Expressions of Interest for our next School Readiness Program in Term 4! ✨

Meet our Paediatric Dietetics team! πŸ‘‹πŸ»πŸ’™

We’re so excited to introduce the wonderful team behind our Paediatric Dietetics service! 🍎🌈

Our paediatric dietitians are passionate about helping children and families develop a positive and supportive relationship with food, while making mealtimes feel more manageable, enjoyable, and achievable.

From supporting fussy eating and food sensitivities, to building confidence with meal preparation, lunchboxes, food safety, and everyday nutrition, our team takes a family-centred and individualised approach to help each child and family work towards meaningful goals πŸ₯•πŸ“βœ¨

Every child is different, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to food. Our dietitians work alongside children and their families to understand what’s happening, celebrate progress, and find practical strategies that fit into everyday life πŸ’™

We’re so excited to have paediatric dietetics as part of CT Kids and to continue expanding the support we can offer children and families across our community! πŸ§’πŸΌπŸŒŸ

"Why won't my child tell me what they need when they're upset?" πŸ’™

It's one of the most common questions our Speech Pathologists hear from parents and caregivers.

The truth is, when children become emotionally overwhelmed, communication often becomes much harder.

Even children with strong language skills can struggle to express their wants, needs and feelings when they're dysregulated.

In this video, our Speech Pathologists share practical strategies that can help, including:
πŸ’¬ Getting down to your child's level
πŸ’™ Validating their emotions
βœ… Offering simple choices
🌱 Taking the pressure off communicating in the moment
😊 Practising emotion words and communication skills when they're calm and regulated

Supporting communication isn't just about building language skillsβ€”it's about helping children feel understood, safe and confident enough to express themselves, even during life's big emotions πŸ’›

This Speech Pathology Week, we're celebrating the theme "Communication Creates Possibility." Because when children have the tools to communicate their feelings and needs, it creates possibilities for stronger relationships, greater confidence, and meaningful participation in everyday life.

It might look like a simple game of UNO… but there’s so much more going on here πŸ‘€

In paediatric therapy, play is purposeful. Every card picked up, every turn taken, and every β€œUNO!” called is an opportunity to build important skills like:

🎯 Attention and listening
πŸ”„ Turn-taking and flexibility
πŸ—£οΈ Expressive language (naming colours, numbers, actions)
🧠 Understanding rules and concepts
πŸ’¬ Social connection and confidence

And yes… sometimes the clinician even loses on purpose (or not πŸ˜‰).

Through play, children feel relaxed, engaged, and motivated, making learning more meaningful and effective.

This is what therapy can look like πŸ’™

πŸ’¬ Communication creates possibility ✨

As we celebrate Speech Pathology Week, we're reminded that communication doesn't always have to be high-tech to make a big difference.

For some of our clients, these simple laminated communication cards can be life-changing. They help people express pain levels, ask for help, make choices, or simply say "yes" and "no" when words are difficult.

A huge shoutout to our Admin (Hayley, Abbey and Maggie πŸ™ŒπŸΌ) who recently printed and laminated stacks of these low-tech AAC resources for our Speech Pathology team.

They might look like just pieces of paper, but in the right moment, they can reduce frustration, ease stress, support independence, and help people stay connected with the people who matter most πŸ’™

Because communication creates possibility β€” and everyone deserves a way to be heard.
