What happens to a child’s scoliosis curve when you follow them for nearly nine years? That is exactly what our latest research set out to find out.
We followed children diagnosed with scoliosis before the age of ten, tracking how their curves changed over almost a decade of care. By the end, their curves were on average 21.5 degrees smaller than when they started. And a year after treatment ended, all four curves were still smaller than when they first came in.
This matters because children diagnosed with scoliosis at a young age are often in a difficult spot. They are too young to fit neatly into the research that exists for teenagers, and there is very little guidance on what non-surgical care should look like for them. Every study that looks at this group brings us closer to better answers for the families who need them most.
