Progress isn’t Linear.

And some may think, how frustrating. And it certainly it can be. But here in the ebb and flow of progress is where the magic lays. Because in each plateau or setback, lays the lessons that we often need to learn, and the space needed to reflect, to enable us to move forward with the next insight. Which results in more personal growth.

And how cool that we keep to get levelling up!

Feeling irritated, angry, sad, overwhelmed, seemingly for no reason and noticing it interfering with your day. Sometimes checking in with yourself and identifying/naming what’s going on internally can help move through these emotions.

After much consideration about how I want to offer counselling services, I keep coming back to how I feel you cannot address mental-emotional wellbeing in a vacuum. I wholeheartedly believe that mental health is almost always multifaceted, and therefore my approach will reflect that.

To encompass this, I have created Naturopathic Counselling appointments. These still follow the principles of counselling and psychotherapy, providing support in personal growth, emotional healing and developing problem-solving skills. But it also takes into account potential compounding factors, such as gut health, sleep quality, stress management/HPA-axis and hormonal health. Allowing for an in-depth treatment plan to be developed, as to achieve the best mental and physical health outcomes.

It just makes sense.

Last night I took myself out for dinner to celebrate the completion of my Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy, which was completed mid last year. It was my graduation yesterday, but it was also Kylah’s first school sports day, and I didn’t want to miss that.

Upon reflection, I seriously wonder how I completed it. (I do know - stress, hard work, and a whole lot of support from my family). Anyone who has studied full time will know the commitment it takes, but to do it alongside working and parenting was a serious achievement in my book.

Anyway, congrats to me!! 😀📚🙇🏽‍♀️

Protein is an essential macronutrient critical for maintaining human health. Research suggests women require more than the Australian and New Zealand RDI of 46g/day, specifically during weight loss, where there is a concomitant loss of fat free mass (FFM), when building muscle, and in peri and post menopause when muscle mass and bone density decline.

Further, a meta-analysis has found that a diet that is higher in protein (27% of energy from protein) vs lower protein (18% of energy from protein) improves weight loss, BMI, waist circumference, blood pressure, HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, fasting insulin levels and satiety.

Ensuring adequate protein intake is essential for improved cardio-metabolic health, and longevity. For more strategies for sustained and lasting weight loss/maintenance, contact through socials or www.nourishandthrive.com.au

Are you an all or nothing person? A black and white thinker? Do you feel like you often set yourself up for failure, or self-sabotage? 🤨

Often times these ways of being can be unhelpful when trying to make changes, as often unattainable goals are set, and when they aren’t initially achieved, that feeling of failure can dissuade you from trying again.

Counselling can be helpful in identifying these patterns - reach out if this sounds like something you are dealing with!

Have you ever thought, 'I am doing all the things, why am I not seeing results?'

You have created new healthy eating habits, you are doing a variety of exercise that you enjoy (not to punish yourself), and you feel you are in generally good health, yet, you aren't seeing results?

It could be that you are not feeling psychologically safe. Sounds a bit extreme, put like that. But can include things like:

☁️ chronic, ongoing stress in your life
☁️ doing things you logically know you may need to be doing, but is not in alignment with your values
☁️ doing too much, yet viewing rest as laziness

This can upset your internal feeling of safety, increasing cortisol, which has a flow on effect to many different physiological functions, ergo, impact your results when trying to implement change.

If this sounds like something that is going on for you. Reach out for a chat!
