I love this so much! 🥰

Birth is such a beautiful example of how mindful movement and healthcare can work alongside each other.

During pregnancy and after birth, there may be midwives, doctors, women’s health physios and other health professionals supporting the clinical side of care.

And then practices like yoga and Pilates can complement that care to support the whole person.

Pilates can help us build strength, stability and confidence in a changing body as well as support recovery. Yoga can help us explore movement, breath, relaxation, body awareness and that ability to soften when we need to.

They’re not there to replace healthcare or be the answer to everything. They’re another layer of support.

And I think that’s what I love most about this work. It doesn’t have to be one thing or the other. We can have healthcare and mindful movement. Strength and softness. Support for our bodies and support for the whole person.

Birth is one example, but really, isn’t this the support we can use in all parts of our lives?

A huge congratulations to this beautiful mum and her family.

It was such a privilege to support her, but the real credit belongs to her. She consistently showed up for herself and made the suggested practices part of her everyday life, giving them the opportunity to truly support her when she needed them most ❤️

🥳 Next month, our little studio turns 3!

And I’ve been reflecting a lot on how much has changed over the past three years.

What began as a little yoga business has grown into something I understand much more clearly now.

The longer I do this work, the more I realise that movement isn’t really the end goal.

It’s about what movement allows us to do.

💪 To feel strong enough to participate.
😉 Confident enough to try.
🫶 Supported enough to begin.
😀 And free enough to live our lives in the ways that matter to us.

As we head towards three years of Maitri, I’m looking forward to sharing a little more about where we’ve been — and where we’re going 🩷

Loved reading this article about Brady Fielder using yoga as training for his big events! Not just for his body, but to prepare his mind too.

“He also does yoga and meditates to mentally prepare for the job.
‘It’s amazing after a big week of bull riding,’ he said of the yoga sessions.”

If one of the toughest guys in one of the toughest sports does yoga to improve his performance, maybe it’s time we stopped thinking yoga is just about being flexible 😉

Strength, mobility, recovery, focus, breath control and the ability to stay calm under pressure. Yoga has a lot more to offer than touching your toes.

Brady Fielder talks about climbing on the back of an 800kg bucking bull with the same composure as someone heading to a routine office job.

Just planning the schedule for next term.

Is 5pm too early for a class??

I’m thinking 5-5:50pm and then 6-6:50pm to keep them earlier in the evening.

Let me know what you think ☺️

If we followed the seasons like nature does, we might lean into the slower mornings of winter, allow those extra kilos to help keep us warm, and choose nourishing movement that meets us where our energy is.

And now, as Spring arrives, you might notice a little more energy or motivation to move. Maybe you’re drawn to something more energetic, or maybe the earlier light simply makes getting out of bed that little bit easier.

Rather than feeling guilty for not doing “enough” over winter, we can meet ourselves exactly where we are now and begin again when our energy allows us.

If that’s been you, Spring is here 🌱

Keep an eye out for next term’s schedule, choose a class that feels right for you, and commit to a term of movement that nourishes your body and soul.

No guilt. No making up for winter. Just moving with the season you’re in 🤍

This term has gotten away from me!

Here is the list of yogis who have been coming along to at least one class a week all term! Amazing effort guys, especially with all the disruptions to the term.

You're on track for a free class and little prezzie in a few weeks time.

The biggest benefit, however, is those little wins you see in your life that I hope you're noticing from your practice.

🤔 Monday Maitri Muse 🌿

Me and my lovely friend Sarah after our 10km split event on the weekend with Run Club. We had a ball and it had me reflecting on how my movement has changed throughout the different seasons of life.

I’ve been involved in many different types of movement over the years. Never a top-level athlete, but always willing to go along for the ride (mostly the chats 😉).

As a teen — team sports, athletics carnivals, and my first introduction to yoga at 19.

In my 20s — gym, boxing, Pilates, mini triathlons, mountain runs and scuba diving.

In my 30s — netball, umpiring, HIIT, yoga and, towards the end, more Pilates.

And now, coming up to my 40s — yoga, Pilates and (some) running .

But there’s one type of movement that has been consistent through all of those years: **mindful movement, in one form or another.**

I love the more competitive activities. I enjoy pushing myself, setting a goal and rising to a challenge. But I’ve also always needed something to fall back on — when I’m injured, when I’m tired, when I’m pregnant, when my body needs a stretch, or when I simply need to slow things down.

And that’s not to say yoga and Pilates aren’t hard. They absolutely can be. But they can also meet you where you’re at, without expecting you to be anything else.

Maybe that’s why I keep coming back to them.

Not necessarily as a replacement for the other ways I love to move, but as something that supports me through all of them — and through all the different seasons of life.

If you’re in a season where you’re looking for a way to move that can meet you where you are — whether that’s alongside everything else you do, or as your main form of movement — you’re always welcome to come and move with us at Maitri 🩷

Moving alongside matriarchs ❤️

It’s often comments from new members that remind me of aspects of our classes I miss being among it. This is one of those.

In rural towns like ours, so many of us are raising families and building lives a long way from where we grew up. We don’t always have our mums, aunties, grandmothers or extended families just around the corner.

And while a movement class could never replace that, sometimes I think spaces like this give us a little glimpse of the village we’re missing.

Different generations, sharing the same room. Moving together. Talking. Laughing. Checking in on each other. And, often without even realising it, sharing little pieces of wisdom along the way.

There’s something powerful about being younger and looking across the room at a woman 10, 20, 30 or 40 years ahead of you—still moving her body, still learning, still showing up for herself.

It quietly changes what we imagine ageing can look like.

Maybe that’s one of the most beautiful parts of having such a wide range of ages in our Collective.

Our younger members get to see what’s possible.

Our older members remind us that movement doesn’t have an expiry date.

And all of us get to experience a little bit of that intergenerational village that humans have always been meant to have 🌿
