Who am I? What are my skills?
My name is Chris, and I've been a disability support worker for 5 years. I specialise in psychosocial disabilities and in autism, particularly with young teens, to help them prepare for adulthood with autism.
During my tenure as a Disability Support Worker, I honed several key skills that are integral to this role. Firstly, my counselling abilities have been developed through direct interaction with clients, offering emotional support and guidance. I understand the importance of empathy and active listening, skills that ensure each client feels heard and valued.
In addition, my ability to organize appointments efficiently has been crucial in managing the various medical and personal commitments of my clients. By coordinating schedules and ensuring punctuality, I help clients attain a structured routine.
Moreover, I possess strengths that are essential for a successful Disability Support Worker. Problem-solving is a daily facet of my work; I tackle obstacles with a proactive mindset, whether resolving conflicts or adapting to sudden changes in circumstances. Time-management is another strength, balancing multiple responsibilities to maximize service efficiency. These abilities enable me to deliver quality support in a dynamic work environment.
Communication, both verbal and non-verbal, is crucial in building trust and clarity with clients and colleagues. My experience has taught me the value of transparency and precision when conveying information.
