When children make choices we don't understand, our first instinct can be to correct the behaviour.

But behaviour is communication.

Before teaching, redirecting, or correcting, children need to feel safe, understood, and connected.

A strong relationship doesn't mean we ignore boundaries. It means we build trust first, so guidance can be heard.

Today Lucy and her clients had fun with shaving cream and cars. It was snowing on the roads. We used lots of hand and finger strength and problem solving to get the cars out of the snow.

Tonight's professional learning session, The Anchor in the Storm, focused on understanding behaviour, supporting learning through practical evidence-based strategies, and learning how we can be the calm anchor children need during difficult moments.

So many children need to climb, swing and hang upside down to regulate. We need to be proactive in giving our children what they need to regulate. Just like adults may need their morning coffee!
