Today I had a Telehealth session with a friend who has moved away.
I spent ages preparing lots of fun resources for our session - checking that my screen sharing was working and that I had all my tabs ready to go… only for him to decide we should play the scary snake game 😂🐍.... So we adapted! We played the scary snake game and worked on our goal of understanding and using location concepts — all while keeping him engaged and having fun!

It's not like me at all to get distracted and forget about Speech Pathology Week 🤣 Better late than never.... Today’s theme around choice making really resonates with me. 💛
Children of all abilities are never too young to be given choices — and those choices can be about anything and everything.

🍞 What do you want on your toast?
🧦 Which socks do you want to wear?
📺 Which Bluey episode do you want to watch
📚 Which book should we read?

Choices can be made using words, gestures, pointing, pictures, AAC or simply reaching towards or looking towards what they want.

The more opportunities children have to make choices, the more they begin to understand the power that communication gives them!

So offer choices. Lots of them. All day every day — communication gives you power. 💬✨

At Kids Steps, we believe every child should have access to the supports they need!
The NSW Government’s Thriving Kids plan effectively leaves out private providers. In many regional areas, including ours, there simply aren’t NGO services available—and where there are, they do not have the same experience and expertise as our committed and passionate crew!

We want families to have real choice and access to experienced clinicians.

There’s a petition asking the NSW Government to include private providers—and we need 20,000 signatures.

A super fun feeding therapy session this morning! We created our own breakfast buffet! Lots of food exploration; confidently cutting, touching, tasting, talking about and eating a range of foods. 🍌🥞🍪

Today is all about those tricky lisps 👅

Lisps are a common speech sound difference, where the tongue protrudes through the teeth - think saying "thun" for sun!

At Kids Steps we help children achieve their speech sound goals using a mix of - traditional speech therapy and myofunctional therapy (supporting the muscles we use for speech!)

Every child’s journey is different, and we tailor therapy to suit their unique needs—making it fun, engaging, and functional!
