Most men do not ignore their health because they do not care.
They wait.
They tell themselves it is probably nothing. They work around it. They keep training, keep working and keep showing up for everyone else, hoping it will settle on its own.
Halfway through Men’s Health Week, it is worth remembering that a change in your health does not need to be dramatic before it matters. Getting something checked early is not overreacting. It is common sense.
Fatigue that does not shift. Sleep that has changed. Pain that keeps returning. Peeing more often than usual. Discomfort or changes during s*x. A lump, swelling or ache in the testicles. Changes in mood, energy, strength, confidence or performance.
These are all valid reasons to book an appointment with your GP.
At The Athlete’s Guild and Hoys Allied Health & Wellness, we often see men only after symptoms have begun affecting their work, training, relationships, recovery or quality of life.
The better starting point is earlier.
See your GP. Ask the question. Get the check-up. Rule out what needs ruling out. Then, where appropriate, allied health can help support the physical, functional and recovery-related issues that may follow.
Men’s health should not be about waiting until something becomes serious. It is about noticing change, acting early and having the right team around you.
If something has changed, do not wait.
See your GP.
