CARERS WEEK WELLBEING MORNING – COLLIE

The Child and Parent Centre in Collie is hosting a special Carers Week event on Tuesday 14 October, and we’re sharing the invitation with our AJM Support Work community.

The Child and Parent Centre runs a MyTime support group for parents and carers of children with additional needs, providing an opportunity to connect, share experiences and access support.

This Carers Week event is open to carers, as well as parents and carers of children who may benefit from coming along.

Bookings are essential.

**IN LOVING MEMORY OF ANDREW**

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to one of AJM Support Work’s very special clients, Andrew.

Andrew had been with AJM Support Work since almost the very beginning, and over that time he became so much more than a client. He became someone we genuinely cared about and were so incredibly grateful to know.

Andrew was always a happy man who greeted everyone he met with a smile and his own special way of making people feel welcome. He could certainly be stubborn at times, but then again, who isn't? It was all part of what made Andrew, Andrew.

He loved getting out and about, enjoying his outings, having a coffee and seeing all the familiar faces along the way. Those simple moments brought him so much happiness, and it was a privilege to be there to share them with him.

Nothing was ever too much when it came to Andrew. We did everything we could to ensure he was comfortable, happy, supported and able to enjoy his days in the way he wanted. Supporting Andrew was something our team genuinely loved, and we will always be grateful for the time we had with him.

Andrew passed peacefully on 25th September.

To Katherine and Mal, thank you for trusting AJM Support Work to be part of Andrew’s life and for allowing us to support not only Andrew, but your family too. It has been an absolute privilege.

Andrew, you will be deeply missed by all of us at AJM Support Work. Your smile, your stubborn streak, your love of coffee and your familiar face will stay with us for a very long time.

Rest peacefully, Andrew.

You were very loved, and it was an honour to support you.

I’ll be at the NDIS Expo at the Collie Senior Citizens Centre within the PCYC tomorrow, Wednesday 23 September. 10am to 2pm

Come along and have a chat, ask questions and connect with people within the NDIS industry.

There will be a range of local providers and organisations there, with people available to answer questions, provide information and help point you in the right direction. It’s not just about AJM Support Work. It’s a great opportunity to connect with a variety of people and learn more about what’s available.

If you’re an NDIS participant, family member, carer, support coordinator, plan manager or simply wanting to better understand the NDIS and available supports, come along and say hello.

MALE SUPPORT WORKER AVAILABILITY
Collie Bunbury and surrounding areas.

AJM Support Work is pleased to have a male support worker available to take on new clients. He has flexible availability across a range of shifts be it day night and sleep overs.

This provides an option for clients who prefer or feel more comfortable with a male support worker, whether for personal care, daily living support, community participation, social activities or overnight assistance.

We are currently looking to connect him with clients who may benefit from having a male worker as part of their support team.

R U OK? Day

Today is a reminder to check in with the people around us. Not just today, but every day. A simple “Are you okay?” can open the door to a conversation that someone may really need.

Sometimes people who seem to be doing okay on the outside are carrying more than we realise. They might be struggling with their mental health, feeling isolated, overwhelmed, exhausted, or simply having a really difficult time.

Take the time to genuinely ask. Listen without judgement. Give someone the space to talk. And if you're not okay, you don't have to pretend that you are. Reaching out and asking for support is not a weakness.

At AJM Support Work, we believe support is about more than just the practical things. It's about connection, feeling heard, being supported and knowing that someone is there.

Check in with your family, friends, colleagues, clients and neighbours today.

There has been a lot of information, opinions and unfortunately misinformation circulating about the NDIS lately. We understand that for many participants, families and carers, it can feel overwhelming and even frightening trying to work out what is true.

The reality is that the NDIS is changing, but that doesn't mean everyone is losing their supports or that the Scheme is disappearing.

Many of the current reforms are focused on making the NDIS fairer, more consistent, improving participant safety, reducing fraud and ensuring the Scheme remains sustainable so it can continue supporting Australians with disability for many years to come. While some planning processes are changing, participants will continue to receive information directly from the NDIA as changes affect them. Every person's situation is different, and there is no one size fits all answer.

At AJM Support Work, we're committed to helping our participants understand these changes. If you're unsure about something you've read online, heard from someone else or seen on social media, please don't panic.

Reach out to us. We are always happy to help explain what we know, point you towards reliable information, and support you through any changes to your plan or services where we can.

Our focus has always been, and always will be, providing quality supports while advocating for our participants and helping them achieve their goals.

Let's continue to support one another, share accurate information, and remember that you don't have to navigate the NDIS alone.
