Content warning ⚠️ burnout, skill regression, pet loss and chronic health impacts.
Tonight, I'm here to talk in a longer reel than usual, about my burnout story. I haven't gone into excessive detail, as I'm sure none of you need the trauma dump of what unfolded. However, I share this story for reducing stigma and shame about disability, as well as the real impacts of burnout. I have not included all components of burnout, however some additional factors that were impacted, included:
• sensory issues increasing
• executive functioning worsening
• medication not working anymore/being less effective
• constant exhaustion and limited skill.
because of this three year long burnout period, I made a promise to myself to never let myself get that bad again, where looking after myself has become a priority. It has taken three whole years, to find a new normal and constant pivoting and changing.
Incredible clinicians like Lumen Gorrie have also done burnout prevention webinars and workshops from whom I have learnt many things, which has supported me in my journey. As well as my formal and informal support humans, who have come and gone along the way (you know who you are, so thank you).
Shoutout to Marie, Sandhya, Zoe, Chris, Emily, Lumen, Bianca, Sarah, Beck, Kat, Paul, Pauly, Loc, Raz and more lovely humans just to name a few.
