Since its arrival in 2022 Veroa mite is already decimating our Australian bee population. With chemical control being the go-to solution for commercial honey producers, how do suppliers of chem free raw honey like Garry and Lezlie keep their hives free from contaminants and disease? Vigilance, not placing hives in much trafficked areas and sometimes oxalic acid strips placed above the brood, says Lezlie. The mite doesn't like it. (It acts a bit like insect repellent). Oxalic acid is naturally present in honey, and they don't raise the levels in the honey above what can naturally occur. Good practice, good producers, good food at MOONTREE. 8 Vale St Cooma.

Australian honey?
Testing at the national measurement institute found 18% of honey samples from supermarkets and markets showed adulteration. ( likely from adding imported content). At Moontree, we source our raw honey from trusted local suppliers. Iron bark, Yellow box, stringy bark, Apple box and Red box are in stock now. $ 15.95 a kilo and we'll fill your container if you like or supply one.
Next post, we'll find out how Leslie and Garry (our bee keepers )are staying out of harms way, i.e., Veroa mite, naturally.
Not so fun fact! Annually, New Zealand produces about 1,700 tonnes of Manuka honey, yet there is about 10,000 tonnes sold 🧐

ONE INGREDIENT..... Did you know here at MOONTREE we make our own fresh, smooth, or crunchy peanut butter..... and we only use Australian Kingaroy peanuts ( the best peanuts ). We will fill your own glass jar or container too.. .Fun fact! Peanuts have high concentrations of magnesium ,potassium and other sleep promoting nutrients like tryptophan and melatonin which help regulate the sleep/wake cycle.
