Let’s talk fungal nails 🍄
Thickened, discoloured, brittle or crumbly nails are a sign of a fungal nail infection, known as onychomycosis. These infections are very common, and benefit from proper clinical assessment and treatment.

Assessment matters 🔎
Podiatrists are trained to diagnose and manage fungal nail infections by assessing how many nails are involved, the severity of each nail affected, nail thickness and growth changes, whether there is associated skin infection (tinea), and whether there are any underlying health conditions or medications that may influence treatment choice.

Choosing the right treatment ✔️
Not all fungal nails respond to the same treatment.
• Topical antifungal treatments are suitable for mild, superficial nail infections
• Oral antifungal treatments are often required for moderate to severe, long-standing or multiple-nail infections
Assessing severity early helps avoid months of ineffective treatments and allows a targeted, evidence-based plan from the very start.

Prescribing and medical management 💊
We have a number of highly skilled endorsed podiatrists on our team that are authorised to prescribe oral antifungal medications such as terbinafine when clinically appropriate.
This enables:
• Timely access to effectice treatment
• Appropriate screening and monitoring
• Safe prescribing tailored to individual health needs

Why treating fungal nails is important 🚨
For people with chronic health conditions such as diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, or compromised circulation, fungal nails are more than just a cosmetic nail problem.
Untreated fungal nails can:
• Become thick and difficult to manage
• Increase pressure on surrounding skin
• Lead to breaks in the skin and secondary infections
• Increase the risk of ulcerstion in high-risk feet
Early diagnosis and effectice treatment play an important role in preventing complications and maintaining long-term foot health.

If you’re concerned about fungal nails, book an assessment with one of our experienced podiatrists today - with the right treatment choice, we can help you manage your nails safely and effectively 👣

What is Peripheral Neuropathy?
Peripheral neuropathy is nerve damage that predominantly affects the feet and legs, causing symptoms like numbness, tingling, burning, pins & needles, weakness, or loss of sensation.

While there are many causes, diabetes is the most common cause of peripheral neuropathy in Australia. High blood glucose levels over time damage the nerve fibres, especially in the feet!

Without proper sensation, the foot becomes vulnerable to unnoticed pressure, friction and injury. This increases the risk of ulcers or infection, and in severe cases, hospitalisation and amputation.

How can we help?
At Advance Podiatry Group, we can:
✔️ Assess your sensation and nerve function
✔️ Perform regular foot checks including monofilament and vibration testing
✔️ Help identify early signs of neuropathy before complications arise
✔️ Provide tailored management plans that include footwear advice, pressure offloading, education and ongoing monitoring

🗓️ If you have diabetes, or if you experience any of the symptoms above, book in for a foot check - early detection and action helps to protect your feet and can make a huge difference!

Back-to-school means busy feet 👣

Make sure your child is stepping into the school year on the right foot with a back-to-school foot check. As podiatrists, we can help identify potential foot and lower limb issues early, supporting healthy growth, movement, and comfort throughout the school year.

Born and bred in Wodonga, Nicole has a thorough understanding of the high-quality and personable care that the community and surrounding areas require and strives to deliver this within her passion for providing holistic, equitable and accessible podiatry care for everyone of all ages.
