Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common, contagious respiratory virus. While itβs often mild, it can lead to serious illness and hospitalisation for older adults and people living with chronic health conditions.
For people living with chronic pain, respiratory infections like RSV can be harder to recover from and may trigger flares or worsen existing symptoms.
From 15 May, a newly funded RSV vaccine will be available on the National Immunisation Program (NIP) for:
β’ Australians aged 75 years and over
β’ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 60 years and over
This means eligible older Australians will be able to access a funded vaccination to help protect against serious illness caused by RSV.
If you or someone you care for is eligible, speak with your GP or healthcare provider about whether this vaccine is right for you.
