The NDIS is changing how it decides who gets support — and it's a big one.

From 2026, the focus is shifting from "what's your diagnosis" to "how does this affect your daily life." For families of autistic kids, teens and young adults, or those with ADHD, that means good, detailed evidence of everyday support needs matters more than ever.

We've put together a plain-English explainer on what's actually changing, what it means for your family, and how to make sure you're prepared — not caught off guard. No jargon, no scare tactics, just what you need to know.

Choosing social skills support for your teen? Here's what the evidence actually says.
If your teenager is autistic and you're weighing up social skills support, it can be hard to know what actually works - there's a lot of noise out there. So we've put together a plain-English look at the research behind one of the most studied programs in the world, PEERS, including what it does, and what the science says it actually changes for teens: friendship quality, confidence, and even measurable changes in how the brain responds socially.
We're sharing this not to push a product, but because we think parents deserve to see the evidence for themselves before deciding who to trust with their child's support.
You can read the full breakdown (with links to the original studies) here: https://www.ucsol.com.au/blog/social-skills-evidenced-based

Meet Zac, Founder and Director of Unified Care Solutions.

As a Registered Nurse and PEERS® Certified Provider, Zac is passionate about helping neurodivergent young people build confidence, develop meaningful social connections, and achieve greater independence. His approach combines evidence-based practice with practical, strengths-focused support that helps participants apply new skills in everyday life.

Having lived experience of both ASD and ADHD, Zac understands that every person's journey is different and believes the best outcomes come from listening, working collaboratively, and focusing on what matters most to each individual.

Outside of work, Zac enjoys fishing, camping, and exploring foods from different cultures. He enjoys fishing for the experience just as much as the catch—which is fortunate, because the catch is often in short supply.

Zac founded Unified Care Solutions with a vision of delivering thoughtful, evidence-based supports that empower people to live with greater confidence, independence, and connection.
