Perimenopause is the transition period before you actually hit menopause. It’s been overlooked for years so a lot of women don’t realise their new symptoms might be hormone-related. 🙍🏻‍♀️

Here’s how perimenopause can cause or worsen chronic pain:
• More intense cramps – Hormone swings can lead to stronger uterine contractions and deeper pelvic pain.
• Heavier and longer periods – A changing cycle can mean more bleeding and more days spent in pain.
• More bloating and pressure – Higher oestrogen can cause fluid retention which may make pelvic discomfort feel worse.
• Poor sleep – Night sweats and insomnia can lower your pain tolerance and make flare-ups easier to trigger.
• More headaches and body aches – Hormone shifts can set off migraines or increase general sensitivity in the body.
• More muscle and joint pain – Lower oestrogen can affect inflammation and leave you feeling stiff and sore.

If this sounds like what you’ve been dealing with, talk to your GP or OB-GYN for proper support. Feel free to comment your thoughts about perimenopause and discuss with fellow spoonies! 💬

If you’re a spoonie, you’ve probably tried a few supplements to help with the challenges chronic pain brings. One gentle option people often talk about is magnesium glycinate. 💊

Here are a few reasons spoonies may find it worth trying:
• May ease everyday aches – It can support the body’s natural way of calming pain signals.
• May help with anxiety – Some people feel more settled and less “wired” when they’re taking it regularly.
• May support deeper sleep – It can help your body relax so rest feels more achievable.
• May relax tight muscles – Great if you deal with tension, cramps, or that constant “stiff” feeling.
• May support bone health – Helpful for long-term strength, especially if movement has been limited by pain (arthritis).
• May ease PMS symptoms – It can support mood and cramping for those who struggle during their period.

If you’re thinking of adding magnesium glycinate, start low, go slow, and check in with a healthcare professional if you’re on other meds. You can also tag others you think would need this in the comments! 😄

If your periods have gotten heavier or your lower belly keeps aching, it might not be “just cramps”. One possible cause is a myoma, also called a uterine fibroid or just a fibroid.

Fibroids are common growths in the womb and they’re usually not cancer. But they can still trigger recurring pain such as deep pelvic pressure, stronger period cramps, and bleeding that feels way too much to handle. 😣

If this sounds like you... it’s worth checking in with an OB-GYN so you can get clear answers and the right plan. And if pain is already affecting your daily life, our doctors will support you with holistic pain management so you don’t have to push through it alone. 💖

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the most known causes of chronic pain. But did you know that it's also one of the drivers of disability for young Australians?

This is because MS is a disease where the body attacks itself. The immune system destroys myelin, the protective covering of the nerves. 💥

Think of our nerves as the highway in which the brain sends messages to the rest of the system. If that line is compromised, functions will also get interrupted.

While current treatment options are mainly for stalling or slowing progression, MS patients can have the same expected life span as regular people. ☝🏻

Our patients tell us that CBD oil helped reduce both their spasm and pain. So, if you're terrified of MS, know that options are available and it's not the end of the line. 🫂

Flare-ups can feel endless when you're in the middle of them. It’s hard to imagine your body ever settling down again.

But pain doesn’t stay at the same intensity forever. Even small shifts count, like when your shoulders drop a little and you can finally take a full breath again

If today is a tough one, be gentle with yourself and take it minute by minute. Drop a 🌟 in the comments if you needed this reminder too.

Hard truth: On the outside, you may look physically fine even with back pain but people often miss how life-changing it can be. ☝🏻

It affects how you sit, how you sleep, how you work, and even how safe your body feels when you move. For some, it can even force you out of your job.

And when it drags on... it doesn’t just hurt your back. It can wreck your mood, relationships, and confidence in your capacity to do anything which can be far more damaging. 😥

If you’ve been toughing it out hoping it’ll pass, you don’t need to. We use evidence-based pain care at PCA so you can move through your days with less fear and more comfort. 🫂

Some conditions make you scan every room the moment you walk in. Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is one of them.

One of the hallmarks of IBD is uncontrollable and painful bowel movement. Patients have learned to always keep track of bathrooms, queues, and exits. 🚽

But IBD is more than just constant trips to the toilet. Other symptoms include abdominal cramping, weight loss, severe fatigue, and bloody stools.

It's also not just a simple stomachache. It's caused by the immune system attacking the lining of your colon or digestive tract, hence "inflammatory."

So, if you're having any of these symptoms, you're not "just being sensitive." Around 180,000 Aussies have IBD. This number is expected to rise but only with improved diagnostic rates. 👨‍⚕📋

Help spread awareness this World IBD Day by sharing this post. It may just be the difference between someone getting help now versus being stuck enduring stomach pain for years.

Have widespread pain yet your lab tests always show up as "clean"? You might have fibromyalgia!

Fibromyalgia affects around 1 million Australians, and yet it can take several years to diagnose. 😓

The cause isn't clear, so doctors would usually try to rule out other causes of chronic pain.

Some theorise that fibromyalgia is due to nerves misfiring or misinterpreting pain signals, making it even harder to "prove."

But there are factors that increase the probability of fibromyalgia as the culprit behind unexplained pain. Feel free to react on the photos that fit your situation. 👇🏻

Suffering from constant joint pain but there's no bone destruction? It might be lupus!

When spoonies get joint pain, they often suspect rheumatoid arthritis. This is because it also causes joint inflammation.

However, lupus is more "systemic" than arthritis. If you have rashes, hair loss, fatigue, chest pain, and sun sensitivity, your risk goes up. ⚠️

Lupus currently has no cure, but treatments are available to help improve quality of life for Australians.
