For Marlena Sprott, being a surrogate is something that brings an incredible amount of joy.

She describes it as almost “selfish” in a way, because she gets so much happiness from helping someone else build the family they’ve dreamed of.

And perhaps that’s something we need to hear more about: surrogacy can be deeply meaningful for the person carrying the baby too! It can be an experience filled with purpose and genuine happiness.

We love hearing surrogates share their stories because understanding their experiences is such an important part of understanding surrogacy itself.

Are you a surrogate? What motivates you?

Choosing an egg donor can feel like a very personal decision. It’s natural to look for someone who shares your physical characteristics, but there’s much more to consider than appearance.

As Frida, Donor Coordinator at MIRACLE Surrogacy, LLC explains, intended parents need to consider a range of factors, from medical history and genetic compatibility to egg quality, screening results and availability. All of these and more play an important role in finding the right match.

If you're considering egg donation in Mexico, Sam wrote an article exploring what to look for when reviewing donor profiles, and why the “best match” isn't always the one who looks most similar.

Surrogacy can be an incredibly rewarding journey, but it can also be hard, unexpected and, at times, isolating.

Having people around you who genuinely understand what you’re going through can make such a difference. People who have been there, who understand the highs and the challenges, and who you can turn to when you need support.

You don’t have to navigate the journey alone.

Finding your community, sharing your experiences and asking for help when you need it can be one of the most valuable parts of the journey.

Thanks to AJ and Trudy for sharing their perspectives!

There’s still so much misunderstanding about what it really means to be a surrogate.

For Marlena, sharing her story is one way to change that.

She hopes that by speaking openly about her experience, she can inspire intended parents to better understand the incredible people behind their journeys, and encourage other potential surrogates to take that leap too.

Because surrogacy can be life-changing in so many ways, and for someone who is ready to take that journey, it can mean giving one of the greatest gifts imaginable.

Thank you, Marlena Sprott, for sharing your story and helping others see what surrogacy can really mean.

Choosing a surrogacy program? Don’t let cost be the only deciding factor.

When comparing programs, the headline price is only part of the picture. Transparency, surrogate support, matching processes, legal considerations, timelines, communication and what happens when things don’t go according to plan can all have a significant impact on your journey.

So, what should you actually be looking for when comparing your options?

We take a closer look at the key factors to consider when choosing a surrogacy program, and why looking beyond cost matters.
