Happy International Rural Women’s Day 🤎🐮
From campdrafting to fixing a leaking pipe, driving machinery, chasing cattle (and occasionally being chased by them 🤣), branding, preg-testing, cooking dinner, keeping the station compound gardens beautiful and creating a little oasis to come home to. Making a house a home, not just for yourself, but for everyone who works on the station.
The list goes on, and that’s what makes rural women so bloody special.
The resilience, the grit and the guts it takes to embrace this way of life, face whatever gets thrown your way and somehow do it all with grace is something I will forever admire.
I’ve been lucky enough to work on some incredible stations, meet some amazing people and experience a way of life that has shaped so much of who I am today.
Being a rural woman is something I’m incredibly proud of. It’s not always glamorous, it’s certainly not always easy, and some days will test every ounce of patience you’ve got. But there’s something pretty special about the women who get up every day, roll up their sleeves and get stuck into whatever needs doing.
And while today is about celebrating rural women, I also think it’s important to acknowledge the incredible men who stand beside us. Because at the end of the day, rural life has never been about men versus women. It’s about working together, backing each other and getting the job done.
To all the incredible rural women out there, whether you’re working on a station, running a business, raising a family, working the land or juggling a bit of everything, today is for you.
Here’s to the women with dirt on their boots, strength in their hearts and the determination to make a beautiful life out of some of the toughest conditions. 🤎
