🦴 What is a Bone Mineral Density (BMD) Scan?

A BMD scan is a quick and painless diagnostic test that uses a low-dose X-ray to measure the strength and density of your bones.

You'll lie comfortably on a padded table while a scanning arm passes over the area being examined — usually the hip and lower spine — to capture the images.

Coastal Medical Imaging offers BMD scans to help assess bone health, monitor changes over time and identify the risk of conditions such as osteoporosis.

An X-Ray is a quick and commonly used scan that uses a small amount of radiation to create images of the body. Bones appear white, while muscles and other tissues show in shades of grey.

X-Rays can be done standing or lying down. The scan is painless, though you may feel slight discomfort from holding certain positions.
