So grateful ‘I found it’.

I’m going back to work this month and it feels… GOOD ☀️

My cheeky ray of sunshine turns 1 next week and it’s time for this mumma to turn some attention back to the community.

It’s an exciting time! I’ve got a NEW space for appts, 1 shift for clinical Pilates sessions and a much anticipated online product coming soon 🤫

I feel like I’ve had a big refresh and I’m ready to jump back in.

My booking system is getting a few final tweaks and I’m updating the website but if you would like an appt (starting Sep 17th) send me a dm! 💌

BOOK OPENINGS is one of my favourite exercises to prescribe post breast cancer surgery.

It’s incredible for improving shoulder range, chest tightness, thoracic mobility, cording, posture and core control… BUT it needs to be progressed to.

Here’s a few variations I use to get you there.

Personally, I love the ‘windscreen wiper’ variation, it’s such a beautiful stretch to do if you feel like you’ve been a bit ‘hunched over’ all day 🙃

⭐️ Cancer Rehab Awareness Week ⭐️

Pain, fatigue and weakness should not be the cost of survival.

Cancer rehab can help manage symptoms, rebuild strength, reduce recurrence and improve quality of life.

EVERYONE who has walked this path deserves access and support for cancer rehabilitation.

Let’s make it a standard part of care, so people can be supported to get back to doing what matters most 🫶🏼

An example of why clothing choices matter!

Supportive shoes, unrestrictive bras, clothing and natural fibres where possible will help your lymphatic system do its job and flow unimpeded.

Tight, restrictive clothing and shoes can cause the fluid to pool and stagnate.

This client has lymphoedema so we see the effect quite dramatically of her shoe choice. I managed to move it all with some MLD but it took precious time from her appt. She changed to supportive sneakers and her feet looked SO much better at her next appt and we had more time to work on the rest of her legs!

⚡️ CORDING ⚡️

Aka Auxillary Web Syndrome

Most often seen in the armpit like we see here but post breast cancer I have also treated this in the forearm and ribs.

These cord-like structures look like a hardened piece of spaghetti and can cause restriction of movement and pain. They are calcified / hardened lymph vessels or connective tissue that occur post surgery or radiation.

I always treat these at the scar (often where they originate) as well as at the cord itself. I use a combination of manual therapy and stretches. Although it’s not necessarily the aim, sometimes these will snap (sounds like a glow stick cracking) providing instant relief - as was the case with this one!

Are these wellness tools effective for MLD?

Potentially YES! They can be great to use, feel nice and encourage you to do more of it.

But nothing will fix poor technique. If you’re pressing too hard (or too soft) and sending the lymph the wrong direction, the best tool in the world won’t help you.

If you have lymphoedema, I recommend just using your bare hands on your affected areas. Better connection, grip, less chance of infection and you get to know the feel of your tissues.

If you’re just looking for general wellness, use whatever tool you like! Keep in mind the $2.50 Temu facial brush (pictured) is likely exactly the same as the $50 one being sold to you on IG with better marketing 😉

Either way, make sure you’re massaging the right direction 👍🏼

Surgery wounds can be painful, sensitive and cause a lot of mental and emotional distress.

We encourage people to implement scar massage once the wound is healed to promote optimal healing at around 6 weeks… but there’s another step that can make that transition SO much smoother that comes immediately post surgery.

Gentle touch post surgery is SO important to support the physical and emotional healing around the scar. You can do this on top of dressings or on bare skin close to the wound (clean hands always!).

It’s the most gentle of touch, no pressure and no massage. Just a gentle contact to bring your awareness to the area, to provide some sensory input and allow yourself to breathe calmly to let your body know it’s safe here.

After surgery… start here 🌸

Meet Ochre… my sweet love and reason for all the change around here. He certainly knows how to shake things up.

We had a rocky start but the last 10 months have been utter joy.

I’m slowwwwwly starting to plan a return to work. Things will look a little different and I have something ✨ NEW ✨ brewing too but I’ll keep you all posted over the next month or so.

In the meantime, I’ll be tending to this cheeky monkey and soaking up the last of my maternity leave. You’ll see me posting a little more so please reach out if you would like to.

Also… If someone could tell me how to slow down time that would be great 🫶🏼

While maternity leave is in full swing, we’re still waiting on our little man to land earth side.

Thank you all for all your thoughts, love and messages. It’s been so nice to still be able to connect with some of you.

I’ll be sure to let you know when the little man lands, but until then, feel free to continue to message on here or email. I might take a little longer than usual but I’m learning the art of patience so hopefully we can all embrace that a little 😉

If you need help with a referral while I’m off, reach out! I have connected with some wonderful and experienced therapists who are able to support you 🤍

LYMPHOEDEMA

I tend to see more people (usually women) with secondary upper limb lymphoedema because of the high incidence of breast cancer.

BUT did you know, that the chances of developing secondary lymphoedema from reproductive cancers is even HIGHER?!

It’s alarming to say the very least.

Secondary lymphoedema from reproductive cancers could occur in the lower limbs, ge****ls or abdomen. As seen in my lovely client here with her left leg.

It’s something to be aware of and a crucial reason why cancer rehab/allied health input is so important to be offered to people during or post treatment 🫶🏼
