Kirketon Road Centre Gadigal Country KRC is a health care service that provides free and anonymous care to people who experience barriers to accessing health care. What's our story?

KRC opened in 1987 at a time when it was clear that existing clinics and healthcare services were not well adapted to the needs of certain groups of people in the area. We believe that healthcare is a basic human right and that some populations have poorer access to healthcare. We are funded to provide services to:

1. People who inject drugs or are experiencing drug related harms
2. Sex workers
3. People experiencing homelessness
4. At-risk young people under 25, experiencing any of the above
5. People in urgent need of sexual health or HIV/Hepatitis care

Moon Festival Connections: Shining a Light on PrEP

We partnered with SHBBV and the Australia & New Zealand Tongzhi Rainbow Alliance (ANTRA) to celebrate the Moon Festival at the Colombian Hotel on 25 September, bringing together around 80 members of the Chinese-speaking LGBTQIA+ community for an evening of connection, culture and entertainment.

In collaboration with ACON, Chinese-speaking staff shared information about the Free PrEP Program and local s*xual health services through an information stall, a presentation in Chinese and a fun s*xual health quiz, with prizes awarded to five lucky winners.

The event helped break down language barriers to HIV prevention and highlighted the importance of working with trusted community organisations to connect culturally and linguistically diverse communities with health information and support.

It's Mental Health Month! 🧠

Our mental health is a vital part of our overall wellbeing, shaping how we live, work and connect with those around us.

This year’s Mental Health Month theme is 'A Little Connection Goes a Long Way', highlighting the powerful role connection plays in supporting positive mental health and wellbeing.

Connection doesn’t have to involve a grand gesture. Sometimes, a simple hello and a smile or taking a moment to check in with a friend or loved one can make a meaningful difference to someone’s day. 👋

Here are some of our counsellors who ask 'What did you do for your mental health today?' Whether it was going for a walk, checking in on a friend, having a sweet treat or petting a dog (with permission of course), we hope you got to do something. 🐕

Sometimes mental health can get hard, and it is always helpful to have a chat with someone about some of the thoughts going on. Our counsellors are always willing and keen to support you on your journey, wherever that may be.

So come on in for a coffee, a tea and if you want, a yarn with someone you can trust. ☕🪡

Happy Mental Health Month! 🌌

A huge congratulations to our Population and Community Health Equity and Prevention Service and Kirketon Road Centre teams on being named finalists in the Health Equity Category for the 2026 NSW Health Awards! 🌟

The teams are being recognised for leading the Intersectoral Homelessness Health Strategy, which is improving health outcomes for people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness across inner Sydney and delivering more connected care for our community.

The initiative has demonstrated measurable improvements in access to care, service coordination and engagement with vulnerable populations, helping reduce barriers to services and enabling faster responses to emerging needs. We are so proud of the team and all they are doing to bring provide real and meaningful change for our communities.

We’re incredibly proud of this achievement and wish everyone involved the very best ahead of the Awards ceremony on 29 October. 👏

Our KRC clinicians delivered outstanding presentations at the Australian S*xual Health Conference in Melbourne last week.
• Our nurse, Anna, presented on KRC's nurse-led long-acting contraception program and showcased a poster on a co-designed s*xual health initiative for backpackers.
• Our director, Dr Phill, presented on point-of-care syphilis testing and our approach to delivering PrEP to people who are not eligible for Medicare.
• Dr Ian presented a poster on long-acting antiretroviral treatment for people living with HIV who experience challenges with adherence to daily medication.

Congratulations to our colleagues who presented on behalf of the KRC team and thank you for representing us at Australia's leading conference for s*xual health professionals and researchers.

A very warm welcome to our new HEO Shanje (rhymes with change)!

Here's a few words from him -

"I have worked many different hats but the ones that have stuck have been s*xual health, mental health and the youth space. Most recently I was a peer at aTest, chatting to people around safe s*x practices and breaking down stigma. There was also a stint at the contact tracing team at the ministry during the COVID-19 dark ages….

Shanej loves 4D horror movie experiences, saying that "my reactions are more terrifying than anything shown on screen."

"I’m very excited to be part of the KRC family, lots to do and a great team to work with."

As the Crown Street clinic continues to grow and be open later, you might find Shanje there, always keen for a chat, a tea or whatever else might be needed.

Shanje brings with him an infectious passion in advocating for the causes important to him, and we are so glad to have him on board.

Welcome Shanje!!
