It’s more than simply showing up for a shift.

A great support worker takes the time to get to know the person they’re supporting - what makes them laugh, what they enjoy, how they communicate and when they need a helping hand.

It’s about patience, reliability, respect and building a genuine connection over time.

At Bluegum Ability Services, we know the relationship between a participant and their support worker matters. When the right people are matched together, support can feel less like a service and more like spending time with someone you know and trust.

Sometimes it means getting in the car and heading down the Stuart Highway to Tennant Creek!

Our Senior Support Coordinator Grace and Support Coordinator Brodie recently travelled to Tennant Creek to check in with participants, catch up face-to-face and make sure their supports are working for them.

Support Coordination is about more than phone calls and paperwork. It’s about getting to know the person, understanding what they need, helping navigate services and working through problems when things aren’t going to plan.
For our team, being there in person matters too.

Whether our participants are in Darwin, Tennant Creek or elsewhere in the Territory, Grace and Brodie work hard to stay connected and find out what they can do to help.

It’s not just about what services are available. It’s about finding people you feel comfortable with, building trust and knowing your support will be consistent.
