๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’œ Did you know the Safe & Found program is now available in the Northern Territory?

For many people living with dementia, walking and staying active is important. However, dementia can sometimes cause a person to become disoriented, lose their way or wander from familiar places. This can be frightening for both the person and their family.

Safe & Found is a partnership between NT Police and MedicAlert Australia that helps locate vulnerable people who may go missing due to dementia or other cognitive impairments. The program allows families to create a detailed profile, including a recent photograph and important information that can be accessed quickly by police if a search is needed.

Members also receive an engraved Safe & Found identification bracelet, which includes emergency contact details and a membership number to assist responders if the person is found confused or lost.

๐Ÿ’ก How can our community help?
Palmerston is a caring and connected community. If you notice someone who appears lost, confused, or disoriented, take a moment to check on them. A friendly conversation and looking for a Safe & Found identification bracelet may help reunite them with their loved ones quickly and safely. ๐Ÿ’œ

If you care for someone living with dementia who may be at risk of wandering, Safe & Found may provide additional peace of mind.

Our April morning tea was a little extra special โ˜•๐Ÿ’›

Instead of one information session, we had three! And we were so pleased to welcome three families living with dementia. It made for such a warm, supportive and meaningful gathering.

A big thank you to our wonderful speakers:
โ€ข Emil (Dementia Australia) โ€“ Dementia Friendly Places
โ€ข Brendan (Towards Horizon) โ€“ Behaviour support
โ€ข Rafaela โ€“ Mindfulness and its benefits

We truly appreciate you sharing your knowledge and supporting our community of people living with dementia and their carers.

Weโ€™re also very grateful to Dementia Alliance NT for the delicious treats from Lips Cafe, and to City of Palmerston for the community venue.

Looking forward to seeing you all again on May 9th! ๐Ÿ’›
