How long do you sit in the same position at work?

30 minutes?
2 hours?
Long enough that your chair is basically part of the family? 😂

Your lymphatic system doesn’t rely on one single pump like your cardiovascular system relies on the heart.

Collecting lymphatic vessels have their own intrinsic contractile activity, but external mechanical forces can also influence lymph transport.

And one of those influences is something beautifully simple:

🚶 MOVEMENT.

When skeletal muscles contract during movement, they can compress nearby lymphatic vessels and contribute to lymph propulsion.

So we’re not going to tell you that these three exercises will magically “drain,” “detox” or “flush” your lymph.

It’s simply getting your body moving after sitting.

Ready?

🦶 1. ANKLE PUMPS

Point and flex your feet gently.

Try 10–15 comfortable repetitions on each side.

Your calf muscles contract and relax as your ankle moves, creating mechanical forces around vessels in the lower leg.

🙆‍♀️ 2. SHOULDER ROLLS

Slowly roll your shoulders backwards 5–10 times.

No forcing. No racing.

Just comfortable movement after being hunched over that laptop all morning.

🚶‍♀️ 3. GET UP & WALK

Take 1–2 minutes and walk around your office, house or garden if you’re able.

That’s it.
Just movement.

YOUR BODY WAS BUILT TO MOVE.

Sometimes a little movement break is simply a good reminder not to spend hours in one position.

So let’s do it!!

⏰ Set a 3-minute timer.

Do your little Desk Reset.

You’re not imagining it.

Menopausal weight gain is real and it’s not just about what you’re eating or how much you’re moving. Oestrogen changes where your body stores fat, shifting it toward the abdomen. Insulin sensitivity drops. Metabolism slows down. All of that is real and documented.

But there’s another layer most women never hear about. When the lymphatic system isn’t removing waste and excess fluid efficiently, that retained fluid adds to the weight and volume sitting in your body. Fat also has to travel through your lymphatic system before the body can actually use it as fuel, so when the lymphatic system is sluggish, fat metabolism slows right down too.

Diet and exercise are important. But if you’re doing both and still not shifting anything, a congested lymphatic system could be the thing in the way. Supporting it through daily drainage, good hydration, and regular movement gives your body the clearance pathway it needs to actually respond to everything else you’re doing.
