This window was ⅓ into the walk in pantry and ⅔ into the back room (which was an office/online room and now a bedroom)...it was green, but not a nice green, it had no glass on one pane. I put a wooden Venetian blind up to cover the ugly green and for some privacy but decided to paint it. I found some paint in the shed and it's done! Much better, another job done ✅
I am going to carpet this room and upstairs, to add some insulation as well as to hide the mish mash of flooring...but that's another post!

What did I get up to today?
A facelift for the upstairs bedroom, using the paint that I had from the cottage renovation.
The floors look good in the photos, but they are not and will have carpet laid for warmth and insulation benefits. So painting is needed before the carpets get laid.

This job is the first thing you see but the worst job to do!
Hence why it hasn't been done.
Walk in the front door and you are greeted by a cosy lounge room and a semi painted ceiling!
Exposed beams and the underside of the hardwood flooring from upstairs form the ceiling, and someone decided they wanted to paint it...but not really do it well or finish the job. So it's either paint it all or remove it...I chose to remove it. Paint st****er? Sanding? Cover it? I found the best and quickest way was with a brush disc on my grinder. But yuk! What a messy, unpleasant job this was...dust everywhere, up your nose, in your hair, in and on every surface regardless of the drop cloths.
I knew it was going to be bad, but I did it anyway.
I couldn't get into all the grooves, and the stain didn't adhere to the paint in the grooves, but it's ok...I tried, it looks ok, at least it looks better than before. Tick that box ☑️
Now, where is that massage for my upper body?

A nice little rug was found at our local op shop in Hagley, Trash Transformers. It had lost some fringing, but I managed to find some similar coloured wool in my craft box and I fixed it. Shaz Sullivan can you spot where I fixed it? Look closely and you will find it, as it's not quite the same shade, but it works. Thanks for the purchase, it goes really well in my house

Another little job done ✅
Filling the gap between the wall, the beams and the sub floor....now to go mow the lawns!

23/09/2026

Almost done with all these little jobs, today I tidied up the hallway that once was the back room.
I knocked down a wall and doorway to open the space up, and then just left it, thinking the builder can fix my meds...well, no, I gave it a go and I won!

Let's make a base for this drawer unit and get it fitted correctly! I have never made a base or fitted a unit before, but let's give it a go and just try.

This is what it's like in my brain...a constant talk to myself to work out how, where, why.

I did the window, so why not tackle the funky step in the bedroom...it's not easy when the house isn't straight. But, it's done, and one day I will paint the trims and the walls so you won't see the filler/bog.
For a first time using a mitre box I think I did ok.

Sometimes I wake up and think let's go frame a window! I have done just square framing before but not fancy mitres, so I googled and after several attempts I worked out what and how to do it.
This window was ⅓ in the walk in pantry and ⅔ in the back room. Once I removed the back wall the entire window was now in the back room. Hence why the framing was weirdly cut.
I think it turned out pretty good considering it was my first go. I then went on to tackle the trims around the stairs!

Let's watch plaster dry!
Day two, another plaster coating, remove the screws and wait till dry.
Looking better already
