Figuring out how ‘good’ cholesterol works in people living with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) could be the key to unlocking new treatments preventing vision loss.

That's the aim of a study led by Dr Carla Abbott, who says ‘good’ cholesterol can protect against heart disease and stroke – however, previous studies have shown that people with AMD have higher levels in their bloodstream.

“It is an anti-inflammatory that helps flush ‘bad’ cholesterol out of the body – but in people with AMD the function of the ‘good’ cholesterol appears to change.”

You can find out more about this study, supported by Macular Disease Foundation Australia, in our 2023 Annual Review.

It is caused by more than 1000 different mutations the ABC4 gene. But there is hope. Associate Professor Fred Chen, a 2017 MDFA Research Grant recipient, has been working to find treatments for Stargardt disease. He is now testing a new treatment that may prevent the progression of the disease.

You are extensions of Source Energy. And when you allow that pure Source Energy to flow through you, you are so bright and beautiful; your timing is good; and you feel vital and alive in your body. And as others see you, they wonder what your magic is. But it only seems like magic because it is experienced by so few. It isn’t magic. It is available to everyone. But you must allow your alignment.

"Silent No More..." 🙏🙏🙏

"If you had a life-threatening cancer, you’d want to know if it could be put into remission. Research now suggests that type 2 diabetes, affecting over 1.7 million Aussies and arguably our biggest killer, can be put into remission in as little as six weeks.

"And yet, the majority of patients with this disease are not aware of such a life-changing opportunity. And why are patients with diabetes still being told to eat a diet high in carbohydrates, the very diet they should be avoiding?

Eye surgeon and Australian of the Year for 2020 Dr James Muecke AM, takes us on his journey from treating the blinding complications of diabetes to his fight to build greater awareness around the causes and complications of type 2 diabetes, and opportunities to combat this blinding, maiming and deadly disease that’s the greatest threat to our health system. In this journey, he sheds lights on the responses from industry, businesses and government, and the vested interests that have shaped the dietary disaster that’s consuming our country.

If you are in Canberra, or can get there, please support James Muecke AM as he finishes off an incredible year of health advocacy with an address to the Press Club as our Australian of the Year 2020 ❤️

In Australia, while 'Flora Plant Dairy Free Buttery' is indeed a mouthful, the ingredients are anything but mouthwatering... Vegetable oil, water, salt, emulsifier (sunflower lecithin), buttery flavours, vitamins A, D, colour (beta carotene).

?@$ #!?

'Flora Plant Butter' is 79% fat... and a perfect example of tweaking a product to fit the 'plant-biased' narrative.

Interestingly, butter isn't a legally protected term in the US unlike the UK, where 'Flora Plant Bvtter' is spelled with an ambiguous leafy 'v' as a "creative and cynical attempt to circumvent consumer law?" suggested someone on Twitter.

BTW, the legal definition of margarine sets it at 80% fat or above, so it appears Flora have deliberately set the fat content slightly under 80%, meaning retailers can't place the word 'margarine' on the display or pricing label.

Marketing departments know that 'margarine' has become a dirty word amongst their consumers... So, they fixed it!

'Plant-biased' messaging 😳
