The need to feel important is human.
We want to know that we matter—that our presence, contribution and existence hold significance.
But when importance becomes dependent on being useful, needed or indispensable, the fear of being ignored begins shaping our choices.
We may take responsibility for everything, solve everyone’s problems or ensure others cannot manage without us.
When people rely on us, seek us out or make us a priority, we temporarily feel significant.
But borrowed importance must be continually proven.
When others manage without us, don’t seek our help or direct their attention elsewhere, we can feel ignored, unnecessary or irrelevant.
The answer is not to stop wanting to be important to others.
It is to also become important to ourselves—to listen to our internal guidance, consider our needs and make ourselves a priority in our own lives.
That’s how Empowered Realism helps you make sense of yourself.
