Loving this sunny weather, great to get outdoors before the winter really hits

Sound advice! No you didn't sleep funny 😴

Most of the joint and tendon pain I see in the office is atraumatic. No fall, twist, and no activity anyone can point to. The shoulder that's been sore for three weeks or the knee that aches when going downstairs. The hip that complained after a walk no longer than any other.

The most common explanation people offer is that they slept wrong. That's not what happened.

What happened is quieter and slower. Muscles have lost strength while tendons have been losing capacity for months… well, they finally got asked to do something they no longer had the capacity for.

Sure, the pain feels sudden because the moment it started hurting seems sudden. But the process that got it there was a long time coming.

Nearly 30 years of this, and the pattern is consistent: atraumatic pain is almost always a capacity problem that finally became visible. The tissue didn't fail. The reserve ran out. Those are different problems with very different solutions, and understanding which one you have determines whether you rest and wait, or load and rebuild.

And very often… the answer will not be found on your X-ray or MRI. You’ll find many things on those scans, but you won’t find the answer to why thing started hurting and what needs to be done about them.

Most of the time, the proper treatment is… load your tissues to improve capacity. Regardless of most of the MRI findings.

Pain is complex, however we can harness the power of our own abilities to lower pain perception.

Flu season is upon us, it's time to get that shot.

Flu season is upon us, it's time to get that shot.

Flu vax stocks have arrived in Australia, pickles.

So let this be your gentle, annoying seasonal reminder to book in for the flu shot.

Kids under 5 can get it free, and there are free programs and eligibility groups across the country depending on your age, health and postcode. Check what applies where you are, but the main thing is not to leave it until half your house sounds like a tuberculosis ward and your Nan's morning melodies are cancelled.

Remind your spouse. Remind your parents. Remind your workmate who still thinks “I never get sick” is a strategy against the flu.

Share this, or a post like it. It might be the nudge that reminds someone to book in.

Winter is coming, and unlike Game of Thrones, this storyline ends predictably every year.

Book the flu shot.

Stay strong, don't let a fall take you out 💪
Credit to Dr. Howard Luks for this timely reminder

Falls are the quiet turning point
no one plans for,
yet they change everything.

In adults over 65,
they are the leading cause
of injury and loss of independence
breaking hips, shaking the brain,
and sometimes, beginning the end
of a once steady life.

But it is rarely the fall itself
that takes us.

It is what follows
the days spent in bed,
the muscles that slowly forget their strength,
the fear that whispers, don’t move too much,
the body growing weaker
in the name of staying safe.

And little by little,
life becomes smaller.
But it does not have to be this way.
Strength can be built, even now

So keep moving.
Keep strengthening.
Keep choosing to stand tall.

Because preventing a fall
is not just about avoiding injury
it is about protecting
the life you still want to live.
