Getting in and out of bed should not be a struggle.

A walking stick that's the wrong height makes everything harder, not easier.

Too high and you'll hunch your shoulder every step. Too low and you'll stoop forward. Either way you're working against your body, not with it, and small aches turn into real problems.

The fix is simple. Stand up straight with your arm hanging naturally by your side. The handle of your stick should sit right at the crease of your wrist. That's the right height for you.

If your stick is adjustable, set it there. If it isn't, we can swap it for one that suits you better.

If using the bath has become impossible at home, there's a piece of equipment most families have never heard of.

A bath lift sits inside the existing bath, lowers the person all the way to the floor of the tub, holds them there as long as they want to soak, and lifts them gently back up to the rim when they're ready pivot and get out. Spending most of the day or night in bed quietly damages skin in places that can't be seen until it's too late.

Pressure injuries form when the same patch of skin carries too much weight for too long. They start as a small red mark near the tailbone, heels, or hips, and they can turn serious within days. Once one starts, it's a long road back.

A pressure care mattress prevents the start. Tiny air cells inside the mattress quietly inflate and deflate in turn, so no single patch of skin carries the load for long. The same technology hospitals use on long-stay patients fits a regular home bed.

Most people hold their walking stick on the wrong side.

If you've got a sore knee or hip, the stick goes in the OPPOSITE hand. Not the same side as the pain.

Here's why it works. When you step forward with your sore leg, the stick on the opposite side moves with it. That takes the weight off the painful joint and keeps your stride natural and balanced.

Hold it on the same side and you'll lean awkwardly, throw your balance off, and put more pressure on the leg you're trying to protect. A lot of people learn the hard way after weeks of sore shoulders or extra knee pain.

It's one of those things nobody tells you when you pick up a stick for the first time. So we tell everyone who walks through our door.
