I loved teaching. I loved the kids. But after 16 years in education and special ed, I hit a wall.
I was working in consulting roles, side-by-side with teachers and families. We would do all the work in the classroom, upskill the staff, and put the right supports in place. But at the end of the day, a child could still be suspended just because a principal had the final say.
I realised that to make real, on-the-ground change, I had to step outside the system. So I did something nobody does: I resigned.
Starting Spear & Arrow wasn't my immediate plan, but itās exactly where I needed to be. Now, instead of hitting administrative roadblocks, I get to work directly with families and see the massive outcomes when everyone truly works together.
Getting a 'thank you' text at 10:00 at night from a family who finally feels supported? That makes every bit of this journey worth it.
