Looking after your health starts with understanding your risk.

Pre-diabetes often has no obvious symptoms, which is why regular health checks are so important.

If you're over 40, have a family history of diabetes, are overweight, or have other risk factors, speaking with your GP is a simple step towards protecting your long-term health.

Your GPs can assess your individual risk, arrange any appropriate testing and work with you to develop a personalised plan that supports your health now and into the future.

๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Asthma Week | 1โ€“7 September

Asthma affects around 1 in 9 Australians, and good asthma management can make a big difference to everyday life.

This Asthma Week is a good reminder to check in on your asthma:
๐Ÿ’จ Is your asthma well controlled?
๐Ÿ’จ Are you using your inhaler correctly?
๐Ÿ’จ Is your Asthma Action Plan up to date?
๐Ÿ’จ Have you had your preventer medication reviewed recently?

If itโ€™s been a while since your last asthma review, book an appointment with your GP to make sure your treatment plan is working well for you.

Even when the weather feels cooler, UV levels in can remain high enough to damage your skin. Sun damage can occur year-round, not just during summer.

If you're spending time outdoors, it's important to protect your skin by wearing sunscreen, seeking shade, wearing protective clothing and a hat where possible.

Looking after your skin isn't just for beach days. Small habits can make a big difference to your long-term skin health.

If you have concerns about a changing spot or it's been a while since your last skin check, speak with your GP about whether a skin check is appropriate for you.

Understanding stroke symptoms and knowing how to respond is critical.

Ahead of National Stroke Week (3โ€“9 August), we want to take this opportunity to remind families, partners and carers of the F.A.S.T. signs of stroke.

๐Ÿ™‚ F โ€“ Face
Has their mouth drooped?

๐Ÿ’ช A โ€“ Arms
Can they lift both arms?

๐Ÿ’ฌ S โ€“ Speech
Is their speech slurred? Do they understand you?

โฐ T โ€“ Time
Time is critical. Call 000 immediately.

Stroke symptoms should always be treated as a medical emergency. Do not wait for a GP appointment or see if symptoms improve.

Save this post, share it with someone close to you, and keep the F.A.S.T. signs front of mind.

* Information is general and not intended to substitute professional medical advice. If you or someone else may be experiencing signs of stroke, call 000 immediately.

๐Ÿ’ฅWelcome to the team Dr Joe Harris ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Dr Joe has called Dubbo home for the past seven years, having first arrived as a medical student at the University of Sydney. After completing his medical training, Joe continued working at Dubbo Base Hospital before commencing his career in general practice. He has since gained experience across both private general practice and Aboriginal community-controlled health, further strengthening his commitment to providing high-quality care in rural and regional communities. Having grown up in Armidale and with a strong connection to rural Australia, Joe is passionate about continuing to build his career in Dubbo and contributing to the community he has come to know and love.

Joe is warm, approachable and committed to providing compassionate, patient-centred care. He values getting to know his patients over time and building long-term relationships. He enjoys the breadth and variety of general practice and takes a holistic approach to healthcare, recognising the many factors that influence a person's physical and mental wellbeing, including the unique challenges faced by people living in rural areas. Joe holds a Master of Public Health and has a strong interest in preventative health. His areas of interest include mental health, men's and women's health, sexual health and preventative healthcare. He is particularly passionate about encouraging men to take a proactive approach to their health and supporting patients to engage with healthcare early, rather than waiting until problems arise.

Outside of medicine, Joe enjoys keeping active through the gym, running and swimming, playing guitar and piano, spending time with friends at local cafes, and being involved in his local church. He also enjoys travelling, exploring new places, and attempting the occasional New York Times crossword or Sudoku.

Please help us share a warm and happy welcome to the Health Hub. We are so excited to have you as part of the team ๐Ÿฅณ

๐Ÿ’ Farewell Dr Carley Reed ๐Ÿ’

Last week we said a sad farewell to our wonderful Dr Carley Reed, as she finished up with us and is heading back to her hometown Lithgow.

Carley has become such a valued part of our team, and we know her patients will miss her just as much as we will. ๐Ÿ’›

While weโ€™re sad to see her go, weโ€™re excited for her as she begins this next chapter of her training and gains new experiences.

Thank you, for all the care, kindness and dedication youโ€™ve shown to your patients, our community and our team.

We wish you all the very best back in Lithgow, you are such an amazing gp and person and they are very lucky to have you! ๐Ÿ’

Please join us in wishing carley good luck and farewell.
