Ever had an emotional reaction that surprised you?

You're not alone in that. So many of our strongest responses were shaped long before this moment, by experiences that taught us how to survive, how to protect ourselves, how to keep going.

Those experiences leave patterns. Patterns that can show up in our relationships, our decisions, and the way we see ourselves.

Understanding those patterns changes everything. Not because it rewrites the past, but because it puts you back in the driver's seat of your own story.

Emotional awareness is not about fixing what's wrong with you. It's about discovering more of what's right. ✨

What if everything you've been through has quietly been building something in you?

Hard experiences shape us in ways we don't always see straight away. They teach us how to read a room, how to speak up for ourselves, how to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

The work isn't about pretending those hard things didn't happen.

It's about learning to carry them differently. Recognizing what they've grown in you and allowing yourself to feel proud of that.

Taking new steps after difficult experiences takes real courage.
You might need a hand with this.

You've already proven you can navigate hard things. You are strong. You are capable ✨

And the next step forward? You get to take it at your own pace!

Mapping your supports, both formal and informal, is one of the most important things you can do πŸ‘‡

It helps you see what you have, name the gaps, and decide what you actually need more of.

Formal supports like NDIS providers, allied health, and support workers are important.

But so is the neighbour who checks in. The friend who listens. The community group where you feel like you belong. The person you always talk to at the shop.

All of it counts. All of it matters πŸ™Œ

And understanding how it all fits together is the first step to using it well.

Ability West works alongside people with disabilities to strengthen both. Because formal and informal supports work best when they work together, and when the person at the centre of it all understands what they have, what's missing, and what they want to build.

Mapping your supports is a practical, powerful first step.

It helps you see your network clearly, have better conversations with the people in your life, and move forward with more confidence and choice and control.

The right people in your corner changes everything πŸ™Œ

People who show up consistently. Who understand your goals. Who celebrate your growth. Who meet you where you are without trying to redirect you somewhere they've decided you should be.

Building that circle takes intention. It means knowing what you value, what you need, and being willing to be honest about both. It also means recognizing when someone isn't the right fit and knowing you have the right to make that call.

You get to choose who walks alongside you. That's not selfish. That's choice.

Is there someone in your life who you'd consider a true supporter? What makes them stand out? πŸ‘‡

Your support network is one of your most valuable resources.

Think about the people, places, and spaces that help you move through life.

Some of them will be formal, paid supports.

Others will be community connections, friends, or family. Some might be online. Some might be right next door.

Each plays a different role. And understanding those roles helps you communicate more clearly, ask for what you need, and build a network that actually supports you.

Knowing who's in your circle and what they bring can be genuinely life-changing.

Knowing yourself is one of the most powerful things you can do.

When you understand what you value, you make decisions that actually feel right. When you know what brings you joy, you can start building more of it into your life.

Self-knowledge is also what helps you communicate your needs clearly to the people around you. And for people with disability, having that language and that clarity can shift so much
You are the expert on you. That's not a small thing. That's the foundation of everything.

Take a moment today to ask: What are three things I genuinely value? Write them down somewhere. Notice how it feels to name them ✨

Finding your purpose isn't about having all the answers right now. It starts with one simple question: What matters to YOU? ✨

At Ability West, we believe purpose looks different for everyone. It might be a feeling, a value, a dream, or something you've always loved but never had the space to explore.

When you know your WHY, every decision becomes a little clearer.

Purpose isn't a finish line. It's not something you declare once and then you're done.

It's a direction. A way of moving through your days that feels aligned with who you actually are, your values, and what matters to you the most.

This week I encourage you to ask yourself: What matters to me? ✨

Small habits can change everything. And movement is one of the most powerful ones you can build.

Research shows that movement releases natural chemicals in the body that genuinely lift your mood, ease stress, and help you feel more like yourself. And the best part? It doesn't have to be hard or intense to count.

A well-designed movement program, one that's built around your body, your needs, and your life, can feel good. It can be something you actually look forward to. It can even be fun.

For people with disability, finding movement that works for you, rather than forcing yourself into a version of exercise that doesn't, makes all the difference. When movement fits your life, it stops feeling like a chore and starts becoming part of who you are.

That's when a habit sticks. Not through willpower. Through enjoyment.

What's a form of movement that genuinely makes you feel good? πŸ‘‡
