🗓 It's Dementia Action Week

Did you know that dementia doesn't only affect older people? Younger onset dementia — symptoms starting before the age of 65 — makes up roughly 6.7% of Australians living with dementia. 🧠💛

Many people living with younger onset dementia are NDIS participants — and Positive Behaviour Support can be a meaningful part of their support plan.

How Positive Behaviour Support helps people with younger onset dementia:

✔️ Helps make sense of behaviour changes that can feel confusing or distressing — for the person, and for the people around them ✔️ Builds respectful, person-centred strategies so the person can keep doing what matters to them, at home and in the community ✔️ Equips families, carers and support teams with practical, compassionate skills they can use day-to-day ✔️ Adapts as the person's needs change over time — because support should move with the person, not the other way around.

🧠💛 At Aurora Behaviour Support, we're proud to stand alongside people living with younger onset dementia and their families this Dementia Action Week — and every week.

📍 Want to get involved in your community? Dementia Australia is running a great range of events this week — memory walks, information sessions and more. Pop over to their website to find something near you: 👉 https://www.dementia.org.au/get-involved/dementia-action-week/dementia-action-week-events

A little about Aurora Behaviour Support: Our team of experienced Positive Behaviour Support practitioners support NDIS participants living with disability, including younger onset dementia. If Positive Behaviour Support sounds like something that could help you or someone you love, we'd love to be part of the journey. 💛

Mother’s Day 💐
We’re a day late, but the appreciation is still just as strong 💜
Yesterday we recognised all the amazing mums and mother figures who play such an important role in people’s lives. Across our Positive Behaviour Support work, we see every day how families help create understanding, build safer strategies, and support meaningful outcomes.
We also know this day is different for everyone so we’re holding space for all experiences.
✨ How did you spend your Mother’s Day? We’d love to hear 💬

Such an important reminder of why the NDIS exists. When people receive the right supports, their wellbeing, independence, and participation naturally grow.

For so many participants, accessing the NDIS is a genuine turning point. We see this every day in Behaviour Support: when people have the tools, strategies and services they need, they’re not just “using funding”… they’re building skills, strengthening relationships, improving safety, and increasing their ability to engage in work, community and everyday life.

It’s easy for public conversations to focus on costs, but research like this highlights the real story — the NDIS is an investment in people’s lives, and the benefits ripple far beyond the Scheme itself.

This is exactly why quality, evidence‑based supports matter. When it's right, people thrive. 💚

New analysis by the e61 Institute, which tracks NDIS participants over more than a decade, finds substantial improvements to their workforce participation and self-reported energy levels within four years of accessing the taxpayer-funded scheme.
