This weekend was about giving N the opportunity to enjoy some time away on respite, connect with her workers and take part in activities she enjoys.

Across the weekend, N was able to spend time out in the community, enjoy different activities, and have some downtime.

This weekend really showed the strength of mob supporting mob. It is about shared understanding, building trust and creating a space where our participants feel comfortable, respected and connected.

It was also a great example of our whole team coming together. From communicating and sharing ideas to supporting one another throughout the weekend, every worker played an important part in making it a positive experience for N.

A big thank you to our team for the patience, consistency and genuine care they showed. By working together, listening to N and continuing to learn what works best for her, we are building culturally safe support that feels right for her.

We are proud of the way our workers continue to show up for our participants and for one another, and we loved seeing N enjoy her weekend in a way that was all about her.

A big week for our Yirra team!!

Weeks like this are a really good reminder of just how much heart, hard work and care our team puts in every single day.

Across Yirra, both our Support Coordinators and Support Workers have been doing incredible work behind the scenes and out in the community to make sure participants receive the support they deserve.

Our Support Coordinators have been advocating strongly, following up services, working through barriers and having some of those tough but necessary conversations to ensure participants are heard, supported and not overlooked. Advocacy is not always easy, but it is such an important part of what we do.

Providing culturally safe support also means speaking up when we know something is not right for mob we support. I am incredibly proud of the way our team continues to ask the hard questions, challenge decisions when needed and stand strong for better outcomes.

Our Support Workers have been supporting participants with their goals, building everyday skills, getting out into the community and being a consistent presence in people’s lives. The care, patience and effort they bring to their work never go unnoticed.

We have also had Support Workers completing participant-specific training to strengthen their knowledge and better support the people they work alongside. That willingness to learn and grow is something we truly value at Yirra.

It has also been wonderful to see our team working together across respite - supporting one another, communicating well and making sure participants receive safe, consistent and thoughtful support throughout their stay.

Other wins this week have included new supports getting underway and receiving some really positive feedback from families and other services. It is always lovely to hear and reflects the strong relationships our team continues to build.

Yirra has now grown to 15 workers, and we are getting ready to welcome another new worker to the team very soon, which we are really excited about.

There are so many moving parts in this work and so much that people do not always see. Week after week, our team continues to show up with compassion, commitment and genuine care for our people.

I am incredibly proud of our team and everything they continue to achieve.

Chloe and Support Worker Dakota headed out to grab some ingredients before spending the afternoon making cupcakes together.

From shopping for what they needed to helping with the baking, Chloe was building everyday skills like planning, making choices and preparing food.

Once the cupcakes were done, Chloe finished off the afternoon with some art.

Colin and Support Worker Seaun spent some time out fishing today, enjoying the fresh air, a bit of quiet time and a good yarn along the way.

For Colin, getting out fishing is more than just something to do. It’s a chance to get out on Country and enjoy something he loves.

At Yirra, supports don’t always need to be complicated. Sometimes it’s simply about getting out, doing what you enjoy and having the right person alongside you.

Homemade burgers for lunch today.

Lane and Support Worker Seaun headed out to pick up a few ingredients before coming back and making homemade hamburgers together for lunch.

From grabbing the ingredients to getting everything ready and cooking lunch, there were plenty of little opportunities to build everyday skills.

Nothing fancy just a simple everyday activity that gave Lane the opportunity to build practical skills, confidence and independence while doing something enjoyable.

Sometimes the best supports are the simple things, having a go and enjoying a good feed at the end of it.
