Closure is one of those words that sounds clean.

But real closure is often messy as hell.

Sometimes you do not get the apology.

Sometimes you do not get the explanation.

Sometimes you do not get the version of them who is finally ready to understand what they did.

And that hurts.

But at some point, healing asks a brutal question:

How long am I going to keep making my peace dependent on their capacity?

“Speak your truth” is good advice.

But your truth still needs responsibility attached to it.

Because honesty can create clarity.

It can also become a socially acceptable way to unload, punish, provoke, or avoid accountability for impact.

Being authentic does not mean saying whatever comes out of your nervous system first.

Boundaries are having a weird moment online.

Everyone is talking about setting them.

Fewer people are talking about holding them without turning them into control, punishment, or a full TED Talk about why you’re allowed to have one.

A boundary is not:

“Do what I want so I don’t have to feel this.”

A boundary is:

“Here is what I’m available for. Here is what I’m not available for. Here is what I will do if this continues.”

And yes, it might feel awful afterward.

Especially if you learned that love means being easy, useful, agreeable, available, and low-maintenance.

But guilt is not always a sign you did something wrong.

Sometimes guilt is what shows up when self-abandonment stops being your default setting.

Field Note 4: boundaries are not just prettier forms of control.

What’s a “boundary” you see people using that might actually be control in better branding?

“Listen to your body” is good advice.

But only if you’re willing to learn its language.

Because discomfort can mean danger.

It can also mean honesty.
Growth.
Accountability.
Grief.
Change.
An old survival strategy losing its grip.

Every alarm deserves attention.

Not every alarm deserves obedience.

Sometimes healing sounds like:

“I’m activated, but I’m not handing this feeling the steering wheel yet.”

That pause is where the work is.

Field Note 3: discomfort is not always danger.

What’s a discomfort people often mistake for being “unsafe” when it might actually be growth?

Sometimes guilt is wise.

Sometimes guilt is just the internal fire alarm going off because you stopped being so bloody convenient.

Especially if you were used to being the helpful one.
The easy one.
The available one.
The one who bent before anyone else had to notice the pressure.

So before you let guilt make the decision, pause for a second and ask:

Is this guilt asking me to repair something, or is it trying to drag me back into self-abandonment?

That distinction matters.

Because repair is accountability.

Self-abandonment is just an old pattern wearing a moral outfit.

That’s the note.

What should we unpack next: resentment, boundaries, burnout, or emotional responsibility? ❤️

A lot of mental health content has started sounding like the same thought in different fonts.

So I’m trying something else.

Field Notes for Being Human is where I’ll be unpacking the messy, honest, complicated stuff underneath care, boundaries, burnout, identity, relationships, community, self-abandonment, emotional responsibility, and the strange work of becoming more honest with yourself.

Less guru energy.
More human notes from the middle of it.

So tell me:

What do you want me to write or talk about first?

Drop a word, a question, a pattern, a feeling, or a “please explain this thing because it keeps ruining my life” in the comments.

If you don’t trust their advice, would you trust their criticism? Happy Wednesday. 🙃
