If you've ever wondered what happens in a psychology session, here are a few things you can expect.

A safe and confidential conversation. An opportunity to better understand patterns in your thoughts, emotions and behaviours. Practical tools and strategies to support your wellbeing. And a space to explore your goals, challenges and what's most important to you.

You don't need to have everything figured out before you start.

We often think of burnout as simply being exhausted.

But from a psychologist's perspective, burnout is far more complex than that.

It's a sign that our mind and body have been carrying more stress, pressure and responsibility than they can sustainably manage. Over time, our nervous system starts sending signals that something needs to change.

The question is: are we listening to what it's trying to tell us?

As a psychologist, one of the most common misconceptions I hear is that you need to be in crisis before seeking support.

In reality, many people come to therapy because they're feeling overwhelmed, navigating a life transition, struggling with stress, anxiety, relationships or simply feeling disconnected from themselves.
Psychological support isn't just about getting through difficult times. It's about understanding yourself, building resilience and developing practical strategies to support your wellbeing.

You don't need to wait until things feel unmanageable to reach out.

If you've been thinking about seeking support, I'd be happy to have a conversation. Jo x

A question for you today:

What's something you've done recently that genuinely helped your wellbeing?

Not what you think you should do.

What actually helped?

I'd love to hear.

Winter naturally invites us to slow down.

Yet many of us continue trying to operate at the same pace year-round.
This season, consider what it might look like to honour your energy a little more. More rest. More warmth. More connection. More space to simply be.

Have you ever noticed that sometimes rest feels harder than being busy?

For many people, slowing down can bring up feelings of guilt, discomfort or even anxiety. We live in a culture that often celebrates productivity, achievement and being constantly switched on, so it's not surprising that many of us have learned to associate our worth with what we do rather than who we are.

The reality is that rest isn't something we need to earn. It's a psychological and physical need that helps us recover, regulate our nervous system and show up more fully in our lives.

If rest feels uncomfortable, be gentle with yourself. Like any skill, learning to slow down can take practice.

What are your thoughts on rest? Do you find it easy, or does it feel challenging?

As May comes to a close, this is your reminder to pause and check in with yourself beyond just “busy” or “tired.”

Psychologically, when we spend long periods under stress, the nervous system can begin to treat overwhelm as normal. We keep pushing through, staying productive and coping externally, even when we’re emotionally exhausted underneath it all.

A few gentle questions to reflect on as we move into June:
• What has been taking most of my emotional energy lately?
• Have I been genuinely coping - or just pushing through?
• What’s one thing my mind or body might be needing more of right now?
Sometimes awareness is the first step toward feeling more grounded again.

So how do we actually support young men to feel their best?

We start by listening without judgement and creating spaces where vulnerability feels safe instead of shameful. We model healthy communication, emotional regulation and connection, and stop teaching boys that emotions are weakness or something to suppress. Young men need to know that asking for support is well... human.

This needs to become a bigger conversation in our homes, schools, friendships and communities.

The ocean has a way of reminding us that not everything needs to be solved immediately.

Some seasons are for slowing down, clearing your head and finding your footing again. We often put so much pressure on ourselves to keep pushing through, but sometimes what we really need is space to breathe, reflect and reset.

Creating space in your day doesn’t need to be big or perfect. For me, it’s often the small habits that help me feel clearer and more grounded in a full week

✨ 3 habits that help me maintain clarity:

- Writing things down instead of holding everything mentally
- Building small pauses into my day between sessions or tasks
- Keeping my space calm and uncluttered so my mind feels less full too

None of these are life-changing on their own but together, they create more ease, clarity and capacity 🤍

If you’re wanting more support with this, you’re always welcome to reach out.
