There is SO much more I could put into this post.
And whilst I really believe that perspective is EVERYTHING when living with a condition like type 1 diabetes…seeing these behaviours as a CHOICE I make to best manage my condition and support my body (because they are!) 🦋
But I also think it’s important to acknowledge the impact this can all have on your relationship with food and mental health.
Sometimes feeling like your body is ‘broken’ and fighting against you, and searching for control via food and exercise (two things that DO feel in your control)❤️🩹
Studies estimate that around 18% of people with T1D show clinically significant ED symptoms, and that the risk of developing an ED is ~2-2.5 times greater than those without diabetes.
And I also believe that one of the best ways to prevent or reduce this from happening is by actually talking about it. So those struggling don’t feel shame or like it’s ‘just a given’ with diabetes, but can take steps to reach out for help and support (and my DMs are always open) 🫶🏼
And also just give yourself some grace and compassion for the incredible things you have to do every single day just to keep yourself alive and healthy (even when it’s far from perfect) ❤️🔥
