At Emerge we use visual supports throughout our clinic environment not just within therapy sessions.

You’ll find visual leaving strips, room symbols and other visual cues designed to help children understand what to expect, where they are going and what happens next.

🤷🏻‍♀️ Why?

Because navigating a healthcare environment requires a lot of hidden skills.

Children need to remember directions, understand routines, manage transitions, cope with uncertainty and process verbal information, often while feeling nervous, excited or overwhelmed.

Visual supports help make this information visible.

Our room symbols help children recognise and find their therapy space, building familiarity and independence over time.

Our visual leaving strips help children understand the sequence of events when a session finishes, making transitions more predictable and reducing uncertainty.

These supports aren’t about changing a child’s behaviour.

They’re about creating an environment that is easier to understand.

When children can clearly see where they are going, what is happening and what comes next, they are often able to participate with greater confidence, independence and success.

Sometimes the most powerful accessibility supports are also the simplest.

🚨Sharing to ensure all are aware and if the siren from a device is likely to cause any distress it can be resolved by switching the device to airplane mode during the time or turning it off for this period. Visit ausalert.gov.au for more information.

AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.

It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, we need to test the system in communities across Australia, and Launceston, Tasmania has been chosen as a test location.

Around 11am on Monday 15 June 2026 if you are in or around Launceston, your mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.

The AusAlert test in your area is a Priority Alert. It will vibrate and include a loud siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds. If receiving the test could disrupt you or cause you or someone you know to feel unsafe, visit the AusAlert website at ausalert.gov.au to find out how to turn a Priority Alert off on your device.

As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.

🌈 Why Pride Month Matters at Emerge 🌈

At Emerge, we believe every child, young person, family, and team member deserves to feel safe, valued, respected, and able to be themselves.

That’s why Pride Month matters.

For many people, seeing organisations publicly acknowledge and celebrate Pride sends an important message: you belong here.

Visibility matters. Representation matters. Creating environments where people feel accepted and respected matters.

While inclusion is something we strive to demonstrate every day of the year, Pride Month provides an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to creating spaces where diversity is welcomed, individual identities are respected, and everyone has the opportunity to participate as their authentic self.

We see the positive impact that belonging, connection, and acceptance can have on wellbeing. We also recognise the role organisations like us can play in helping build communities where difference is expected, celebrated, and valued.

This Pride Month, we stand with LGBTQIA+ children, young people, families, colleagues, and community members.

Because everyone deserves to feel that they belong. 🌈

🙋WHY??
Because families should not have to give up their day to access services.

Kids + communities do better when supports are delivered where they live and play everyday!

P.S. Also gives us a chance to check out playground accessibility as we go 😉

Check out this new playground communication board at Riverbend Park - a fantastic example of how spaces can be designed for inclusion, accessibility, and connection.
