Photos from a recent rural excursion to Ingham and Forrest Beach, where Townsville-based registrars explored rural healthcare firsthand.

The group toured local general practices and health services, heard from clinicians about their experiences in rural medicine, and learned about the resilience and community spirit shown during the 2025 floods.

The visit provided valuable insight into the unique opportunities and challenges of rural practice.

Thank you to Hinchinbrook Health Care, Ingham Family Medical Practice and Ingham Health Service for sharing their knowledge, experiences, and passion for rural healthcare.

"You need to put your own oxygen mask on first."

In this video, RACGP Vice President and President-elect Dr Ramya Raman shares a simple but important reminder for Women’s Health Week: prioritise your own health.

✔️ Make time for health appointments
✔️ Stay up to date with regular screenings and check-ups
✔️ Don't let a busy schedule get in the way of your wellbeing
✔️ Remember that your GP is your first point of contact for physical and mental health support.

R U OK? starts the conversation. Your GP can help with what comes next.

You don't need to be a mental health expert to check in with someone. If someone opens up to you, encourage them to seek support.

GPs are often the first health professional Australians turn to when experiencing anxiety, depression, stress and a wide range of other mental health concerns, with 71% of GPs naming psychological issues among their top three reasons for patient presentations.

RACGP President Dr Michael Wright urged Australians to seek care early, and getting assistance before problems escalate: “Getting help earlier can stop problems becoming more serious. Mental health is health, and talking to your GP about it should be just as normal as talking about any other health concern.”
