How do I know if I need a long appointment? 🩺

Sometimes your health concerns need a little more time and that’s completely okay. Booking the right appointment type helps ensure you have enough time to talk through your concerns.

A standard GP appointment is usually 15 minutes. If you feel your concerns may need more time, booking a long appointment can help your doctor provide more thorough care without feeling rushed.

Choosing the right appointment length can also help reduce waiting room delays, as your doctor has enough time set aside to properly support your needs.

You may benefit from a long appointment if you would like to discuss:

✅ More than one health concern
✅ A new or ongoing mental health concern
✅ Reviewing multiple medications
✅ Women’s health concerns such as contraception, menopause or cervical screening
✅ A full skin check or multiple skin concerns
✅ Your first visit to our clinic
✅ Forms, reports, workplace medicals or insurance paperwork (please note these services may incur additional fees and are usually not covered by Medicare)

If you’re unsure which appointment type is best, our friendly reception team is always happy to help.

📞 Call Medsana Medical Clinic or book online to arrange your appointment.

Because your health deserves the time and attention it needs.

💊 Home Medication Reviews: Why They Matter

Managing multiple medications can sometimes become confusing, especially after hospital visits, multiple specialist appointments or changes to your treatment plan.

A Home Medication Review (HMR) is a service designed to help you better understand your medications and ensure they are working safely and effectively together.

✅ An accredited pharmacist visits you at home
✅ Reviews all your medications, vitamins and supplements
✅ Helps identify side effects or medication interactions
✅ Supports safer medication use and better health outcomes
✅ Provides recommendations back to your GP

✅ Who may be eligible?

Your GP can assess your eligibility and provide a referral for a Home Medication Review under Medicare Item 900, if you are at risk of medication-related problems such as:

* Taking multiple regular medications
* Recently discharged from hospital
* Experiencing side effects or medication concerns
* Managing chronic or complex health conditions

📞 Speak with our team to book an appointment and learn more about medication safety and support.

💙 June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month 💙

Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in Australia, but when detected early, it can often be successfully treated.

Many people may not experience symptoms in the early stages, which is why regular screening is so important - even if you feel well.

Signs and symptoms can include:
• Changes in bowel habits
• Blood in the stool
• Unexplained abdominal pain
• Unexplained weight loss
• Persistent tiredness or fatigue

Australians aged 45–74 may be eligible for free bowel cancer screening through the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program.

If you have symptoms, a family history of bowel cancer, or concerns about your digestive health, speak with your GP.

Early detection can save lives.

📞 Book an appointment with our team today to discuss screening and your individual risk factors.

Why do we ask about cough and cold symptoms?

When you book or arrive for your appointment, our team may ask if you have symptoms such as a cough, runny nose, sore throat, fever, or cold and flu-like symptoms.

We ask these questions to help keep everyone safe, including patients and staff who may be older, pregnant, immunocompromised, or living with chronic health conditions.

You can still be seen if you have symptoms.
Telling us before your appointment simply helps us make sure your consultation takes place in the most appropriate environment, with precautions in place to reduce the risk of spreading infection.

This may include measures such as wearing a mask, waiting in a separate area, using a designated consultation room, or arranging the appointment type that best suits your care needs.

Recent public health events, including COVID-19 and outbreaks of infections such as influenza and hantavirus, remind us how important it is to identify symptoms early and take sensible precautions to protect the wider community.

Letting us know about symptoms early helps our team:
• Offer the most appropriate appointment type
• Reduce the spread of respiratory infections
• Protect vulnerable patients and staff
• Prepare safely for your visit

If you are feeling unwell, please tell our reception team or answer the prompts on your BetterConsult pre-appointment form before attending the clinic.

We will still help you access the care you need in a way that supports the safety of everyone at Medsana Medical Clinic.

Thank you for helping us keep our clinic safe for everyone.

🌬️ Heading into winter? Check how well your asthma is controlled by completing the questionnaire in the links.

🔗 Asthma Control Check:
For adults and older children, complete a simple asthma control check via the National Asthma Council Australia:
https://asthma.org.au/acq-start/

🔗 Kids’ Asthma Check:
For children, Asthma Australia has a child-focused asthma check to help parents and carers identify whether their child’s asthma may need review:

Cold air, winter viruses, dust, mould, and spending more time indoors can all make asthma symptoms worse. Even if your asthma is usually well-controlled, winter can increase the risk of flare-ups.

Before winter is in full swing, it may be a good time to review your asthma with your GP.

Consider booking an asthma review if you:
✅ Are using your reliever inhaler more often
✅ Have coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, or shortness of breath
✅ Wake at night due to asthma symptoms
✅ Feel limited during exercise or daily activities
✅ Are unsure whether your asthma action plan is up to date
✅ Have not had your inhaler technique checked recently

At Medsana Medical Clinic, asthma is one of the chronic conditions that may be supported through a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan. This can help with personalised care goals, regular reviews, care coordination, and referrals where appropriate.

📞 Book an appointment with your GP if your asthma symptoms have changed, your reliever use has increased, or you would like your asthma action plan reviewed before winter.
