June is Bowel Cancer Awareness month, and Bowel Cancer Australia reports that diagnoses in people under 40 years old have more than doubled since 2000, with 1 in 9 new cases now occurring in people under 50. This highlights the need for more proactive screening outreach.

Free bowel cancer screening tests are available for people 45 years and older, with general practices able to order National Bowel Cancer Screening Program kits to have them delivered and provided directly to patients.

Today on National Sorry Day, we reflect on the strength and resilience of Stolen Generations survivors and acknowledge that the impacts of forced removal policies remain ongoing for First Nations peoples, families and communities.

This year’s theme, ‘From sorry to action’, speaks to the importance of collective action, highlighting that all Australians play a role in building a future grounded in truth-telling, healing and justice.

Healthcare professionals and support staff, particularly those working in primary healthcare settings like general practices, community pharmacies and aged care homes, can directly shape how Stolen Generations survivors experience care and access health services.

Committing to providing safe, respectful and culturally responsive care is one meaningful way healthcare workforces can take action this Sorry Day. A practical step is strengthening our understanding of trauma-informed approaches to supporting Stolen Generations survivors.

Guidance to support health professionals is available from the Healing Foundation.

Early detection saves lives. 💙

If found early, over 90% of bowel cancers can be successfully treated. Yet, fewer than half of eligible patients aged 45 to 74 take up the life saving opportunity to participate in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program.

Let’s work together to change that.

Many patients are more likely to complete the free test after discussing the process with a trusted healthcare provider.

This June, general practices can get involved in Bowel Cancer Awareness Month by transforming waiting rooms into a space that starts conversations, reduces stigma surrounding bowel health, and encourages screening.

Brisbane South PHN was pleased to support the official launch of the new Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinic in Oxley yesterday, alongside special guests and community partners.

We were honoured to welcome Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care and Assistant Minister for Women, Rebecca White MP, federal member for Blair Shayne Neumann MP and Queensland Senator Corinne Mulholland, who joined local clinicians and stakeholders to mark the opening of this important new service for women in Brisbane’s south‑west.

The new clinic provides bulk billed specialised GP care for women and gender diverse people experiencing endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, and symptoms of perimenopause and menopause. Operating within Medical & Dental Centre Blunder Road Oxley, the clinic’s specialised GPs work alongside patients’ usual GPs, specialist doctors and local allied health professionals to support coordinated, ongoing care closer to home.

Commissioned by Brisbane South PHN, the new service forms part of the Australian Government’s national expansion of GP-led endometriosis and pelvic pain clinics in established general practices.

26/03/2026

As part of national health reform, consumers and healthcare providers now have better and faster access to pathology and diagnostic imaging reports in their My Health Record.

Better access means that pathology and diagnostic imaging providers are uploading reports by default – already over 4 million pathology and 400,000 diagnostic imaging reports are uploaded weekly, with more than 1.4 million weekly views by patients.

Faster access means that consumers now have access to most reports as soon as they are uploaded rather than experiencing a delay.
