Bending down to pick something up shouldn’t hurt.

Yet for so many people, it’s one of the movements they dread most.

Whether it’s picking up your child, unloading the dishwasher, grabbing the washing basket, or lifting something at the gym, the way you move matters.

One of the biggest mistakes Emma sees is people moving into either:

- Too much rounding through the lower back
- Too much arching through the lower back

Neither is ideal.

Instead, we want to find a strong, neutral position where the core is helping support the movement and the load is shared more efficiently throughout the body.

One of the biggest misconceptions about pain is that the painful area is always the problem.

Often, what we're feeling is the result of a compensation pattern that's been developing for months or even years.

The body will do whatever it can to keep you moving and functioning. If one area loses mobility, stability, or function, another area will often pick up the slack.

At first, that's a brilliant survival strategy.

But eventually those compensations can create tension, overload, and pain elsewhere in the body.

That's why at Thrive we don't just ask:
❓ Where does it hurt?

We also ask:
❓ Why is the body compensating in the first place?

Because lasting results come from understanding the cause, not just managing the symptoms.

And over time, that can create a LOT of unnecessary strain through the back body.
