Well, what a room to be in. 💙

Being a finalist in the inaugural Social Impact Award at the SA Premier’s Business Awards was a real honour for Together We Can International Pty Ltd -TWCI

We didn’t take home the win, but sitting in that room with my team, hearing what so many incredible South Australian businesses are doing right across the globe, was pretty humbling. Some seriously clever people doing extraordinary things, and there we were, having our work acknowledged on that same stage. A pretty special moment.

You spend so much time head down, working through the challenges and trying to make things better, that you don’t always stop to appreciate how far you’ve come. Last night gave us a chance to do exactly that.

A heartfelt thank you to SKOOT Community Access for bringing this inaugural Social Impact Award to life and recognising exceptional South Australian businesses making a difference in their communities.

To my team, thank you. I know what goes into the work you do, and sharing that moment with you meant so much. To the people, families and community who trust us and back us, thank you for being part of what we’re building.

Congratulations to all the finalists and winners, and a massive congratulations to Bowhill Engineering, a fellow Murraylands family-run organisation, taking out SA Business of the Year! What an unreal achievement. So bloody good to see you recognised! 👏🏆

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲...𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱.

Today, our first group of 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗼𝘀 team members received their first paid shifts, at award wages and I couldn't be prouder that we made this happen!

Not another “employability course”. Not another feel-good activity to fill time or tick a box. Real paid employment, with opportunities for hours to grow as the enterprise does.

𝗡𝗼 𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗳𝗳. 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀. 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸. 𝗜𝗻 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹, 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀.

Our team designs, makes, packs, sells and sends products, contributing to the business at every stage. We’re recognising and putting people’s individual strengths to work, looking at neurodiversity through a lens of capability and possibility rather than deficit.

If there was ever a pinch-yourself moment, this might just be it!

TWCI has never been about fitting people into systems that weren’t designed for them.

It’s about changing systems.

It’s about recognising ability before disability, creating genuine belonging, challenging what employment and inclusion can look like, proving that different thinkers can do BIG things when backed by wonderful humans doing amazing things.

We started wanting to do better.

Then came people who trusted us.

The families who backed us.

The team who believe in the vision.

The partners, employers and TWCI community who work alongside us every day, and a whole lot of wonderful humans who have helped turn one belief into something far bigger than we ever imagined.

So yes, we’ll wait until 16 November to find out whether we bring home a gold trophy. 🏆

But today?

𝗔 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗘𝗢, 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆, 𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 💙

Today is a genuine pinch me moment for me and a bit of a long post (apologies to all my Neurospicy people who are generally only going to read the first 4 lines!) as today I start my first day of online training with 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹.

Yep, THE Harvard Medical School.

Those who know me will know that, for most of my life, my raging ADHD and neurodivergent brain convinced me that I could not study.

That I could not sit still long enough, concentrate consistently or maintain the focus needed to succeed academically.

So, for a long time, I simply did not try.

I told myself I could not study, accepted that as fact and left it at that.

While many of my friends and colleagues went on to earn amazing degrees and qualifications, I built my career differently.

The brilliance of neurodivergence meant I learned quickly by doing. By leading through pressure, completing 15 tasks while everyone else was still on number 2, solving problems, building teams, developing resilience and growing TWCI from the ground up.

I am incredibly proud of that journey and would not change it.

But I also know what it feels like to genuinely believe you are not smart enough.

I believed academic achievement was not an option for me. I felt less than. I felt incapable. And, if I am completely honest, I probably felt a little embarrassed too.

Sitting with that today, I realise those experiences and feelings have absolutely shaped so much of what we have created at Together We Can International Pty Ltd -TWCI

Because the truth is, this is exactly how so many of the people we support feel every day.

This is why we are drawn to this work.

This is our WHY.

The people we support are not less than. They are not incapable.

Many have simply spent years believing they are because someone told them so, or because traditional classrooms, traditional learning and traditional expectations did not work for the way their brains are wired.

I truly believe this is why we have grown so strongly in this space, why my own journey is so deeply connected to the way we support people and why our whole team is so passionate about this work.

But growth sometimes means challenging the stories you have told yourself for years.

And today, 𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲.

I can study.

I 𝘢𝘮 studying.

And I am genuinely excited and grateful to flick the switch, challenge myself and immerse myself in Harvard Medical School’s The Science of Leadership: The Brain, Resilience, and Mindfulness course.

So... on this random Thursday morning, I urge you to challenge the stories you tell yourself that might be holding you back.

Step outside your comfort zone. Back yourself. Question the narrative. Feel the fear and do it anyway 💪

Real growth begins the moment you decide that old story is no longer allowed to take up space in your head.

Wow, how exciting is this! 🎉

To be recognised alongside such an inspiring group of organisations creating genuine social impact across South Australia is incredibly special.

This recognition belongs to our entire team, whose passion, hard work and commitment continue to create meaningful opportunities and lasting change for the people and communities we support.

Some conferences leave you with a notebook full of ideas.

This one has genuinely changed the way we think.

Over the past two days at the Impact Institute Social Impact Summit in Sydney, I've had the opportunity to learn from some incredible people and organisations who are all asking the same question:

How do we create more meaningful impact in our communities, and just as importantly, how do we measure it?

At Together We Can, we've always been deeply passionate about changing lives. We see the transformations every day through employment, mentoring, social connection and building confidence. But this summit challenged me to think differently.

It's not enough to simply know we're making a difference. We need robust systems to capture, measure and demonstrate that impact so we can continually improve, make better decisions, attract investment, secure funding and ultimately support even more people.

I'm heading home with my brain full, pages of notes, practical strategies and a renewed excitement about the next chapter for TWCI. We're about to take a significant step forward in how we record, monitor and evaluate the outcomes that matter most, ensuring every decision we make is backed by evidence and focused on creating even greater impact.

One of the biggest highlights was meeting people from so many different industries, all united by a common purpose. Whether from government, business, philanthropy, education or the not for profit sector, everyone was there because they genuinely care about building stronger communities and creating lasting social change.

A huge thank you to everyone who shared their knowledge, challenged my thinking and reminded me that social impact isn't just about doing good. It's about proving what works, learning from it and scaling it so more lives can be changed.

Now the real work begins.

Day one of the Impact Institute Social Impact Summit in Sydney… and wow.

My brain is absolutely full!

Today has challenged the way I think about measuring impact, proving outcomes and telling the story behind the work we do. So many conversations, so many ideas and so many practical strategies that I can’t wait to bring back to Together We Can International Pty Ltd -TWCI (TWCI)

One thing that really stood out was being surrounded by a room full of people and organisations who genuinely care about creating meaningful change. Different sectors, different approaches, but all driven by the same purpose of leaving communities better than we found them 🙌🏻

Sometimes when you’re so busy delivering impact, you don’t stop to think about how you measure it or communicate it.

Today was a reminder it isn’t just about what we do. It’s about understanding the difference we’re making and learning from others.

Heading into day two with a head full of ideas and plenty of excitement about what’s possible!

Looking forward to bringing back even more value to our team, our participants and the communities we serve 🫶
